What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLAN REVIEWER I - Range 12 / AMEA position at Municipality of Anchorage?

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. 
 
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.
 
DEPARTMENT:  Development Services
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; Any hours between 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 
LOCATION: 4700 Elmore Road

Under direction of the Supervisor, manage building and land use projects from application to Certificate of Occupancy issuance; answer technical code questions; make engineering value judgements; manage retrofit building and fire rehab application approvals; review small project specifications for adherence to submittal requirements; receive, monitor and resolve customer complaints; coordinate plan reviews and approvals with appropriate staff; and manage coverage of the ACD (Automatic Call Distribution) telephone system.  Perform other related duties as assigned.

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and four (4) years of technical experience in  engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management or a related field.
 
OR

Associate's Degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics or a similar discipline and two (2) years of technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management, or a related field.


OR

Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics or a similar discipline and technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management, or a related field.
 


Preferences:

  • Experience utilizing Anchorage's Current Title 23.10, the Administrative Chapter of the Building Code.
  •  Valid State of Alaska driver's license by the time of hire. 

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
 
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application.  Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment.  The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
