Job Description
The Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Nurse Coordinator reports to the Nurse Manager of the Neuroscience Clinics. Under limited supervision, the DBS Nurse Coordinator ensures excellence in patient care, in an environment that is respectful of others, accountable for patient outcomes and adaptive to change. This role coordinates comprehensive nursing care for DBS patients, including, but not limited to: pre and post op multidisciplinary appointments; management of DBS patient calls; developing the plan of care with the interdisciplinary team; and monitoring progress of DBS patients in the perioperative period. This position functions as a liaison between Movement Disorders, Neurology, Neuropsychology, Radiology, Neurosurgery. This role promotes the DBS program to referring physicians while providing expedited referrals and education; establishing community partners to promote educational patient programs.
Additional Job Description
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing with a minimum of five years’ work experience as a Registered Nurse in a Pediatric Critical Care, or Cardiac and/or Surgery. Experience in Performance Improvement (PI) programs and processes; ability to utilize data for program analysis; demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to collaboratively work with all disciplines. Excellent computer skills; Word, Excel, etc. Certification: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Proof of current training in AED for health care providers. Some positions require a valid driver's license.
