What are the responsibilities and job description for the MCG Telecom Construction Technician position at Musco?
Mahaska Communications Group (MCG) is looking for a Telecom Construction Technician to join our dynamic and fast-paced team. As a Telecommunications Construction Technician, you will have the privilege of visiting our customer sites, performing duties that include safely and efficiently operating excavation equipment to perform fiber installations and set and fill structures.
Please note: This position will be working construction projects throughout MCG's service territory. If applicable, mileage and lodging will be reimbursed per our company policy.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Promoting safety consciousness and adherence to OSHA, Utility, Federal, State, and Local safety requirements during placement of underground network.
- Prepare job site and excavation equipment so that the underground network can be installed safely and efficiently.
- Flag proposed routes and call-in locates.
- Create the best boring path based on utility locates, and pothole all necessary utilities to ensure boring can be performed safely and efficiently.
- Dig in, backfill, and perform cleanup for all structures based on design documentation.
- Perform fiber installation for underground network.
- Providing accurate as-built information to be entered into the GIS system.
- Required to perform QC & QA on all work performed and equipment.
- Participate in repairs in the event of an emergency.
What You Will Need To Be Successful:
- High school degree or GED.
- The ability to obtain a Valid Iowa CDL Drivers License is required.
- Experience with using hand tools and construction equipment preferred.
- 1 Year of relevant experience is preferred.
- Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment, related to but not limited to directional drill, vacuum excavators, mini excavators, skid loaders, trenchers, cable plows, bucket trucks, aerial lifts, etc.
- Ability to do some maintenance of excavation and fiber equipment.
- Strong oral, written, and organizational skills.
- Must be able to follow and understand established standards.
- Self-motivated – need to work well unsupervised.
Other Special Requirements:
- Ability to work a variable schedule, days/nights and weekends as needed, and travel where needed.
- Comply with Federal DOT rules and regulations, including drug and alcohol testing under the rules of the Federal Railroad Administration and a pre-employment physical and background check.
