What are the responsibilities and job description for the DISTRICT COURT ADMINISTRATOR position at Muskegon County?
The District Court Administrator oversees all aspects of the District Court. The District Court Administrator works directly with the District Court judges to provide and improve court services.
The District Court Administrator oversees the supervision of all employees within the District Court and District Court Probation. This includes, but is not limited to, recommendations on hiring, promotions, training, and disciplinary matters; personnel management; performance evaluations; case flow management; and process improvement.
The District Court Administrator, oversees the development of the court budget for funding unit review; ensures compliance with State Court Administrative Guidelines; and takes a leadership role in specific projects and initiatives at the direction of District Court Judges. The Court Administrator substitutes for the District Court Magistrates as necessary, and performs other duties as required.
1. Possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university; AND Have a minimum of six (6) years of full-time increasingly responsible experience in governmental, organizational, or business administration; Certification as a Certified Court Manager and Fellow of the Institute for Court Management may be considered in lieu of experience;
2. Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan;
3. Ability to successfully complete the Michigan Judicial Institute/State Court Administrative Office Magistrate certification program;
4. Ability to successfully complete the Traffic Law Adjudication and Sanctions training course offered by the State Court Administrative Office;
5. Ability to become LEIN certified within 90 days of hire;
6. Possess a valid Michigan driver’s license.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
An employee in this class performs generally sedentary work activities requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The District Court Administrator generally works in the office of the District Court, though travel throughout the County may be required.
EVALUATION CONTENTThe selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
