Occupational Health Triage Nurse Job Descripion
Job Summary:
Telephonic Triage Registered Nurse to support 24/7 Occupational Injury/Illness reporting program.
This position is focused on using a new approach in helping employees stay at work or return to work following an Occupational Injury/Illness. The primary responsibility of this position is to facilitate appropriate and timely health care with the focus on employee stay-at-work, return-to-work, with or without limitations, and return to maximum functionality. This is accomplished by providing an assessment and guidance at the time of a workplace injury electronically including telephonic and video assessment of the employee injury.
Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse utilizes evidence-based guidelines and employs best practices that require early intervention and setting of realistic expectations for recovery and stay at work or return to work.
1) Provide initial injury intake, follow up, and case closures of work-related injury cases.
- Provide initial contact with injured worker within defined metric.
- Obtains history of injury (mechanism and setting) and current job functions
- Assesses functional status and provides recommendations for first aid, self-care, based on treatment protocols. Or provide coordination of care for further medical evaluation to a higher level of care near Injured Worker’s location through case closure.
- Assesses and collects data regarding risk factors for delayed recovery and generates creative solutions to minimize or eliminate obstacles which prevent, or delay stay-at work or return to work.
- Completes follow up calls with Injured Worker to assess progress with suggested self-care or first aid
- Completes documentation within electronic platform
2) Employee/Employer Relations
- Provides employer and supervisor with updates regarding the nature and mechanism of injury as well as suggested level of care utilizing electronic platform
- Serves as an advocate for the injured/ill worker.
- Counsel employees on reduction of risks associated with occupational and environmental hazards.
3) Provider Contact and Collaboration
- Directs care to preferred providers and collaborates with treating provider regarding duty disposition, the ability to accommodate work limitations, and follow up with injured worker by a registered nurse as part of the return-to-work plan.
- Ensures appropriate use of medical facilities, early and appropriate referrals, and redirects care as needed.
- Requests medical records as needed.
4) Performs additional duties and assumes additional responsibilities as identified by supervisor for the efficient operation of MyWorkDoc
Qualifications:
Required:
- Registered Nurse - Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a valid RN license from a compact state.
- High speed Internet availability in home
- Strong computer/technology skills
- Must take injury calls from home in a quiet, professional designated area free from distractions
- Alternate arrangements for elder/childcare during shift required
Strongly Preferred:
- Experience managing work-related injury and illness cases strongly preferred.
- Experience with OSHA recordkeeping strongly preferred.
- Must have positive telephone interaction skills including ability to ask open-ended questions to identify problems and focus conversation for goal directed conversation.
- Must be able to interact effectively with preferred medical clinics, providers, and clinic personnel for proper collaboration of possible work-related injuries and illnesses.
- Requires sitting for long periods of time, working at a desk. Some bending and stretching required. Working under stress and use of electronic platform telephone required. Manual dexterity required for use of calculator and computer keyboard.
