POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant builds trust and credibility through positive interactions with cross-functional co-workers. Committed to advancing the mission of the finance department, the Senior Accountant consistently provides timely and accurate reports for senior executive decision-making, operations, and compliance.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- Work within NAACP’s financial accounting management system, including internal policies, processes, procedures, and promote strong internal controls.
- Ensure process documentation and internal controls in compliance with GAAP, Association policies and funder compliance and applicable laws and regulations.
- Reconcile multiple bank accounts monthly and provide accurate reports on bank balances and maintain FF&E books.
- Prepare adjusting journal entries for all asset and liabilities accounts while coordinating with accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Correct expense and revenue accounts and ensure that the entries are properly documented and supported.
- Maintain General Ledger, reviewing the chart of accounts to keep current, and coordinating with staff for timely month-end, quarterly and year-end close.
- Assist the Finance Department with the preparation of requested reports, tax backup information and annual reports.
- Prepare audit work papers and assist auditors yearly.
- Serve as back up for Accounts Payable
- Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the CFO, Senior Director-Controller, or their designees.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, from an accredited college or equivalent experience, required; CPA, CGMA, or CIA required.
- 5 years of experience in the accounting field.
- In-depth understanding of GAAP, basic accounting procedures, auditing, and financial reporting.
- Experience with SAGE Intacct is a plus
- Proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook.
