Newark Energy Center is an environmentally advanced 705 megawatt gas-fired facility that utilizes GE 7FA technology.
About the Opportunity:
The Engineering Intern assists in the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and the supporting equipment and systems. This position will be expected to support various projects as determined by department managers.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, requiring stair and ladder climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, etc.).
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Work Conditions
Normal working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Power plant environment requiring protective clothing and equipment. Extended hours may be required during project phasing and project specific requirements.
Education and Experience Required
We are accepting applications from current students enrolled in an Engineering program; third year student in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred. Educational concentration in power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety is desired.
- Demonstrated capability to analyze and correct problems that occur in the field
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Project
- Proficiency in PI Processbook a plus
- Some experience in power plant operations and maintenance a plus
- Must possess a valid drivers' license and successfully complete a background check, pre-employment physical and drug screen
