GENERAL SUMMARY

The Plant Engineer assists in the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and the supporting equipment and systems. This position will be expected to support various projects as determined by the Fleet Engineering Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Engineering support to the plant includes the following:     

  • Prepare required reports for the owner and/or utility
  • Serve as resource to the all plant personnel to ensure the facility operates as reliably and efficiently as possible
  • Track and monitor overall plant performance including but not limited to the combustion and steam turbines and the HRSG
  • Develop, communicate, and perform work practices and procedures to keep site drawings and documentation up to date
  • Consult with project owners on issues involving plant and facility on-going operations and maintenance
  • Serve as a Project Manager for all future and on-going projects
  • Develop and administer contracts and work scope for external contractors to ensure maximum efficiency in the use of plant and contractor personnel
  • Identify, trend and analyze plant heat rate and efficiency. Recommend changes and enhancements in operations that maximize profit to the Plant Owners
  • Analyze equipment failures, determine root causes, recommend recovery plans and impose cost effective solutions to prevent reoccurrence
  • Perform reliability studies to ensure that the plant’s availability and capacity factors are maximized
  • Review plant design and generate recommendations to reduce the overall cost of operations
  • Manage capital improvement projects to ensure budgetary guidelines and contractual guarantees are met
  • Fully support and participate in NAES Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Plant Engineer will report to the Fleet Engineering Manager and cooperates with the Operations, Maintenance and EHS Managers as needed. The Plant Engineer will coordinate with operations on matters concerning the client and the operation of the plants.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Physical requirements include the possibility of standing on feet for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Position requires extended working hours.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

We are accepting applications from those with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; either mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred. Educational concentration in power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety is desired.

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering discipline is required
  • Demonstrated capability to analyze and correct problems that occur in the field
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Project
  • Proficiency in EtaPro and/or OSI PI systems is a plus
  • Some experience in power plant operations and maintenance is a plus
  • Must maintain a valid drivers' license.
