Position Summary:
The Director of Programs/Outreach/Development is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, implementation and reporting of all NAMI Geauga’s family and peer programs including those programs that are NAMI Signature Programs as well as any programs developed at the state or local levels to meet the needs of the communities we serve.
The Director builds community outreach and a positive reputation for NAMI Geauga through regularly communications, media and social networking, and special event coordination. The role oversees and participates in funding strategies for NAMI Geauga through donor relations, grant writing, sponsorship development, Classy non-profit campaign platform and other fundraising strategies.
This position is a member of the management team and participates in and contributes to the strategic planning, budgeting, operations, and the mission of NAMI Geauga.
NAMI Geauga is a small non-profit and it is expected that all employees will assist each other and provide back-up when needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Family and Peer Program Management
- Responsible for planning, oversight, and supervision of all NAMI Signature family and peer programs including:
- NAMI Family-to-Family
- NAMI Peer-to-Peer
- NAMI Basics
- NAMI Homefront
- NAMI Connections
- NAMI Family Support Groups
- NAMI Peer Support Groups
- New signature family and peer programs as they are determined necessary for the communities we serve.
- Responsible for oversight and supervision of all non-signature family and peer programs, including:
- Family Support and Advocacy
- Peer Support and Advocacy
- Survivors of Suicide Support Group
- Mental Health First Aid
- Information and Inspiration
- Other non-signature family and peer programs as requested and deemed necessary for the communities we serve.
- Assure fidelity to the model for all NAMI Signature Programs.
- Recruit, train, and provide ongoing supervision and technical assistance to staff and volunteers who lead and/or work with all family and peer programs.
- Ensure collection of class participants’ data and ensure timely entry into NAMI’s reporting site.
- Maintain course materials, including updates, by ordering, printing, and distributing current, new, and/or updated curriculum materials and charts.
- Keep up-to-date information regarding outcomes (studies) of each of these programs, in particular the evidence supporting the models we teach.
- Stay abreast of current and emerging issues related to applicable programs and community needs by attending NAMI conferences, non-NAMI conferences and through professional development and education.
- Provide administrative supervision of the organization’s certified peer specialists to include coaching, mentoring, and assistance with accessing and tracking training pertinent to them maintaining their certification.
- Plan and facilitate annual, non-fundraising events for families and peers including a holiday party and summer picnic.
- Effectively provides leadership, oversight and management to NAMI Geauga programming, including both paid staff and volunteers.
- Effectively communicates NAMI Geauga’s vision and mission to a variety of audiences.
Outreach
- Provide content for the website and social media including writing regular articles and updates regarding family and peer programs
- Assist with NAMIWalks and other NAMI Geauga special events as needed.
- Direct and participate in campaigns during mental health related awareness days/weeks/months (i.e. May as Mental Health Month, Children’s MH Awareness Week/Day, Mental Illness Awareness Week, July as Minority Mental Health Month, etc.)
- Create and maintain the most optimal community image of NAMI Geauga and its family and peer services.
- In conjunction with the Executive Director seek out opportunities for expansion of family and peer programs in the communities we serve.
- Provide outreach, program development and implementation for underserved communities.
- Oversee the creation of flyers for all family and peer programs.
- Represent NAMI Geauga on committees and community collaborations as appropriate to the position.
Administration & Strategic Planning
- Contribute appropriate goals to the annual strategic plan and budget development and ensure reporting against the plan.
- Schedule and ensure successful execution of programming according to planned target budget.
- Successfully participate in planning and executing organization’s ongoing Strategic Plan.
- Responsible for accurate timely data collection; storage; reporting to Board of Directors, agency and NAMI reporting site
- Develop and maintain a system of accountability and surveys to assure the productivity, effectiveness and continuing improvement of family and peer programs.
- Maintain and update procedural details of family and peer programs.
- Manage the family and peer program budgets including completion of grant requirements.
- Maintain a list of active and inactive NAMI certified teachers/facilitators and their NAMI membership status.
- Ensure that all staff and volunteers participate in continuing education as is required by their position or certification.
- With Executive Director, contribute to the organization’s Quality Improvement Plan quarterly.
Development
- Expanding organizational funding by overseeing and participating in grant writing, sponsorship development and nurturing and maintaining positive donor relations.
- Develop and implement successful marketing and fundraising plans.
Experience/Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management position requiring leadership, directing, and strategy execution, with specialized work in the mental health/human services field preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Obtain NAMI specific certifications/training as required.
Competencies:
- Ability to direct and motivate staff and volunteers.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including clarity and articulation of thoughts, appropriate grammar, style, form, and punctuation. Ability to read, write and comprehend English.
- Must be well organized, detailed oriented and able to manage multiple and concurrent priorities.
- Ability to utilize critical thinking- such as using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- A personal or professional understanding of issues affecting those living with mental health conditions and the ability to work effectively with those impacted by mental health conditions.
- Collaborative knowledge, abilities, and skills at working in a team-based environment
- Computer proficient in Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to learn and utilize internal dashboards, databases, and various agency specific tools.
- All NAMI Geauga County positions require interaction with the Board of Directors, co-workers, NAMI members, community, and business leaders. This requires a high level of professionalism and integrity in all aspects of the job.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
- Must be available for events during non-traditional work hours such as evenings and weekends.
- Schedule must be flexible to accommodate various program, individual,
- and staff needs. Office hours are typically 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday-Friday. Events such as staff and individual meetings, board meetings, etc., do not always fall within the usual hours, but will be expected to attend when requested.
- Ability to type and work on a computer for up to two hours at a time.
- Maintain acceptable time and attendance, avoids excessive or unapproved absences.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle, possession of a valid OH driver’s license, clean driving record and sufficient liability insurance. Must own or have access to a personal vehicle and be willing to drive that vehicle for work related purposes
- Ability to climb two flights of stairs.
- Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs.
