What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Mentor position at NAMI Sacramento?
Expected Hours of Service: up to 40 hours per week through December 2024.
Mission:
NAMI Sacramento works to promote recovery and improve the quality of life of people impacted by mental illness through support, education, and advocacy. The Peer Mentor assists in our mission work by providing adults impacted by a mental health condition with information, communication, and problem-solving skills as well as peer networking to better pursue their wellness. They will provide a whole community approach to recovery and the skills they will need to succeed in their circumstance.
Education:
California MPSS Certification required.
Experience:
Lived experience as an adult who has been stable in recovery for with a mental health condition for a minimum of two years or a family member of someone living with a mental illness for at least five years.
Be at a point to be able to speak openly and honestly about your experiences in support of others.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Interact, mentor, and encourage peers and family members/loved ones with mental illness/behavioral health struggles in self-motivated recovery.
- Encourage peers and family members to respect and participate in an individual’s treatment plan.
- Promote recovery and resilience by sharing their own story and by being a role model helping to promote hope, skill development, strength, stability, and safety.
- Document and secure HIPAA compliant notations on client progress.
- Attend ongoing training and skill development.
- Maintain the confidentiality of course participants.
- Be able to set and track attainable goals for your client.
- Complete regular client surveys and attend required BHWD meetings.
- Must maintain active standard membership with NAMI.
Additional expectations of this mentor role include:
- Promote NAMI and advocating in various ways for mental health in your community and connecting program participants with appropriate community referrals to help them on their journey with mental health.
- Participate in facilitation and participation in NAMI Connection Support Groups.
- Approach wellness with an open mind and provide clients with as many options as they need to achieve stabilization.
- Graduate clients from the program into success and stability.
Desired Abilities, Skills, and Experiences:
- Be supportive of Substance Abuse and Dual diagnosis issues through lived experience or training.
- Be willing to adhere to the fidelity of the NAMI program models once trained in them.
- Must have completed Covid vaccination and display vaccination card to validate.
- Must have reliable transportation and vehicle insurance to meet with clients.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
