Job Description
Job Title: Field Investigator
Department: IMSA Competition

SUMMARY. The Field Investigator works as a member of a team responsible for (i) pre-event race car safety checks, (ii) post-incident recovery of race cars in the paddock, (iii) initial data collector for crash investigations; (iv) Fuel Rig Inspections and (v) other safety duties assigned. The Field Investigator should be knowledgeable in race car safety systems including proper installation/usage and advocate for the safety of drivers. The Field Investigator will report to the Senior Manager of Security and HV Safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Crash Investigation
- Manages the vehicle crash investigation process at Events for IMSA Series. Establishes and executes the crash investigation process, including overseeing investigations conducted by others as directed by the Senior Manager, Security.
- Develops and implement a checklist to gather information at the scene following a significant incident.
- Construct and publish a post-event report to Senior Manager, Security summarizing investigations, safety checks, and inspections.
- Gathers information for future use or consideration to correlate to potential injuries and provides information to competition staff for learning from the incident after the fact.
- Works with IMSA Track Services and local recovery responders to ensure the safe return of race cars to teams in the paddock.
- Works with other IMSA staff assigned to Field Investigations.
- Safety Inspections
- Works as a team member with Series Technical Inspectors during Safety Inspections.
- Works with the Director of Technical Inspections on safety updates, new safety standards and proper usage of these systems.
- Maintain working knowledge of applicable FIA and SFI Standards used in the IMSA racing series.
- Driver and Equipment Inspections
- Provides training and coordination of the IMSA Helmet Inspection program.
- Administers IMSA Fuel Rig Inspection program for the WeatherTech Championship Series and Michelin Pilot Challenge Series under the supervision of the Director of Technical Compliance and Scrutineering.
- Works with IMSA staff to review and update Sporting Regulations and Technical Regulations regarding driver and race car safety.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Approximately 90% of travel required.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 7 years combined experience and education in law enforcement, fire rescue, emergency response, automotive mechanics or vehicle crash investigation.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Proficient with Company provided hardware and software.
OTHER SKILLS
Strong organizational, administrative, communications (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks. Experienced and proficient in investigative procedures and crash investigation protocol.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
