Director of Nursing


Natchez Trace Youth Academy is a highly-structured 115-bed cognitive behavioral program serving adolescent males ages 11-17 years old. Our interdisciplinary staff helps residents refocus their thinking patterns in order to improve their actions/behavior. Our diverse team works together to facilitate the changes that become an investment in the future of each young man's life and his family's life. We are located in the beautiful hills of Tennessee between two magnificent rivers, just 15 miles south of Waverly, Tennessee. We seeking a dynamic and talented Director of Nursing to join our team of compassionate, dedicated professionals. Under the direction of the CEO, this position is responsible for ensuring compliance with nursing care standards established by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and adherence to facility objectives and policies pertaining to nursing administration.


Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Directs or coordinates development of staff and operation of nursing department.
  • Provides direction to assist with formulation of program goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for coordinating provision of twenty-four hour nursing coverage for the facility.
  • May provide direct client care; performing related duties as required.
  • Manages medication of clients by ensuring physician orders are evaluated, implemented, and documented and by assuring proper administration of medication to each client.
  • Educates nursing staff and practices ongoing client assessment, evaluation and update of client care through observation of physical and behavorial symptoms and communicates pertinent data to other service areas as needed as well as documents all date accurately according to facility policy.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of adolescent emotional and mental health and disease concepts.
  • Ensures the right of all clients are observed and protected through the use of appropriate and respectful communication, proper de-escalation techniques, and correct physical restrain methods when necessary.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and minimum 2 years' experience in the nursing field.
  • One year experience in managerial or supervisory capacity at or above the level of Nurse Supervisor.
  • Must be a Registered Nurse licensed to practice nursing in the state where the facility is located.
  • Experience in mental health field preferred but not required.
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Valid state Driver's License
