What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Technician position at National Park Service?

This is a career seasonal position located in Minidoka National Historic Site, in the Interpretation and Education Division.

Qualifications:

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/17/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40 hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level (Note: Clerk, Assistant or Technician work in a single grade occupational series at the GS-05 level does NOT qualify for this position, however GS-06 level may) in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience MUST include: (1) Independently developing and presenting education programs to school groups; (2) Teaching others; (3) Serving as a representative for community outreach. You must include hours per week worked on your resume.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

ICTAP/CTAP Clearance: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies. Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(2) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP. This includes a copy of the agency notice, a copy of their most recent Performance Rating, and a copy of their most recent SF-50 noting current position, grade level, and duty location. Responsibilities:

This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee is guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year. While in pay status, work schedule is full-time. The typical season for this position is 8 months from March through October. Non-pay is approximately: November - February but may be shortened if additional work/funding exists during this timeframe to have the employee work the max of 25 pay periods.

MAJOR DUTIES:
  • Prepare and present a variety of interpretive programs.
  • Develop and present curriculum-based educational opportunities to K-12 students both in the park and off-site in schools around the region.
  • Train, coach, and mentor others.
  • Coordinate the operation of a visitor facility and information desk.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors during all types of weather.

Salary : $46,696 - $60,703
