Director of Development - Major Gifts

 

Nationwide Children’s Hospital Foundation seeks a skilled major gift officer to join our team to assist in achieving major gift fundraising and planned giving program goals. Reporting to the Vice President, the Director of Development will be responsible for identifying and cultivating relationships with prospective major gift donors.

 

This involves prospect research and developing effective solicitation strategies as well as stewarding donors throughout the major giving process. The major gift officer will work with a donor portfolio with an emphasis on gifts of $100,000 or greater.

 

Our ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree and at least five years of successful major/planned giving experience, preferably in the medical field or nonprofits.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a portfolio between 75 and 150 prospects with the capacity to give a major gift.
  • The expectation to raise $2M per year with a mature portfolio.
  • Secures 100 face to face prospect visits per year.
  • Drafting major gift proposal documents
  • Works with clinical teams and foundation leadership team to identify key funding needs
  • Actively practices moves management through the benefactor life cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Establishes relationships with donors who are prospects for estate and planned gifts.
  • Documents all donor related activities using Raiser’s Edge donor system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.  Master’s Degree in related field preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • At least five years of fundraising experience preferred. Sales experience can offset fund raising experience.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.  Must be comfortable with people of all ages and backgrounds.  Must be comfortable with public speaking and one-on-one communication.
  • Demonstrated personal initiative, devotion to hospital mission and on-going personal education and development.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to be a team player.
  • Ability to be entrusted with personal and confidential information and make ethical decisions.

Minimum Physical Requirements:

 

  • Frequently interacts with people during the course of the day, including talking on the phone or face-to-face, walking to their offices or using the computer to interact; frequently composes documents and e-mail on the computer and occasionally lifts objects weighing 40 pounds or less.
