About the Role
Nativo is looking for a VP, Controller to join our team in architecting the future of advertising by creating meaningful connections with consumers on the only ad platform that combines the power of content with scale, measurement, and control.
Reporting to the CFO, the VP, Controller will be responsible for driving operational effectiveness, analysis of the profitability and cost management of operations, and the development of tools and reporting capabilities to support a late-stage startup in achieving its growth objectives.
In this role, you will be a trusted partner and critical member of the Finance team with responsibilities for all accounting policies and procedures, including revenue recognition, general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, taxes, treasury services, equity, audit, systems, and consolidation.
What You’ll Do
- Provide strategic oversight over general ledger accounting such as revenue recognition, monthly closing, consolidations, accruals, AP, AR, fixed assets, trend reports/analysis
- Ensure all financial statements and reports are prepared and presented in a timely manner including income statements, balance sheets, and cash-flow statements. Partner with department heads to effectively manage significant interaction and communication with other corporate functions to drive all accounting initiatives
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end consolidated U.S. and international financial statements and variance reports
- Act as a liaison with external partners including external auditors, banking partners, and 3rd party suppliers
- Develop the Company’s Treasury policies and procedures
- Partner with FP&A to identify and mitigate risks and opportunities throughout the financial planning, cash flow forecast, and close processes
- Oversee the company's cash positions and payments working closely with FP&A to develop strategies to optimize cash flows and forecasts
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including oversight of annual tax, 1099, 409a, sales, and payroll tax filings
- Ensure strong internal controls by building and maintaining effective processes and systems, and coordinate activities in accordance with established controls
- Oversee General Ledger functions assuring accuracy, timeliness, and conformity with professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with GAAP
- Identify and implement process improvements, including system automation and simplification initiatives
- Continue the evolution of the ERP system with automation to help the organization scale, allowing for good reporting while ensuring strong internal controls
- Accountable for all accounting-led systems, including Expensify, NetSuite, Avalara, Tipalti, and Yaypay
- Lead and grow the Accounting team in a fast-paced, startup environment with an emphasis on performance, accuracy, and communication
What You Need
- 15 years of progressive accounting experience
- 5 years in AdTech, Digital Media, or SaaS industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field
- CPA designation, active license a plus
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and technical accounting expertise
- Prior leadership in yearly corporate audit
- Prior ERP experience with Oracle/Netsuite preferred
- Advanced MS Excel proficiency and other MS Office products required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills being able to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment, navigating competing priorities and tight deadlines with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
