The Android Mobile Application Developer / Software Engineer - Remote is responsible for:
Developing new Android mobile applications for medical devices and non-medical device applications.
Supporting and evolving existing Android mobile applications.
Automating unit testing and regression testing of all Android mobile applications.
Collaborating with onshore and offshore team members in the development and maintenance of Android mobile applications.

About the Team:
This is an opportunity to join a small team of Android mobile application developers focused on our mission to improve patient outcomes through innovative screening, diagnostic and treatment solutions. The team is currently focused on creating a next generation hearing screening device. The team is part of a larger collaborative team that values open dialogue to arrive at the best solutions for our customers. Your expertise in modern Android mobile application architectures and the latest Android mobile technologies will be highly valued and appreciated by the entire team.
Get involved in new product development projects involving Android mobile applications.
Work with medical device SMEs to ensure understanding of clinical use cases to optimize User Experience.
Collaborate with Human Factors expert/consultants to optimize wireframe models. Translate wireframe models to optimum user interface implementations.
Collaborate with back-end developers to deliver well-architected and high-quality solutions.
Come up to speed on a handful of existing Android mobile applications. Provide recommendations to resolve any issues that may exist.
Tune all Android applications to ensure optimal performance and user experience.
Ensure all code is readable, testable and that technical debt is constantly evaluated and iteratively eliminated.
Implement a holistic strategy for automated unit testing and automated regression testing.
Collaborate with Test Engineers to provide insights into application design and potential test strategies.
Create required documentation per Natus Design Controls.
Travel: Minimal travel (5% - 10%) is required to visit other Natus sites.
BA in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience
Minimum 3 years mobile application development experience
Must be a self-starter who can work independently with a minimum amount of supervision as well as contribute to a team environment.
Extensive knowledge of Android SDK, Android version 9 and newer/older versions, and all phases of Android mobile application development including publishing to Google Play Store.
Strong knowledge of Android UI design principles, patterns, best practices, and design guidelines, and how to support multiple screen sizes.
Strong knowledge of architectural patterns—MVP, MVC, MVVM, and Clean Architecture—and the ability to choose the best solution.
Published examples of mobile applications in Google Play Store.
Proficiency in: Kotlin/Java and JSON.
Proficiency in Git-based source code management.
Knowledge of SQLite or similar database management systems.
Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks
Communication with REST APIs written by Natus.
Modern REST APIs for Networking.
Modern REST APIs for Common Mobile Application Features.
Experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning
Experience with a CI/CD platform/process
Desirable Qualifications (Not Required)
Experience in Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a plus
Experience with Firebase, and Visual Studio App Center is a plus
Experience developing medical device software following design controls and relevant regulations (e.g. IEC 62304, IEC 62366, IEC 60601-1-6, IEC 14971, IEC 13485, 21 CFR 820.30) is preferred
