Job Description
The Digital Workplace Technology – Sr. Site Reliability Engineer - DevOps is responsible for the build, test, and maintain the infrastructure and tech stack used by the Workplace Solutions Engineering team with the goal of facilitating the ongoing development and releases of software solutions used globally by NBCUniversal employees and partners. The solutions span across a portfolio of applications including Web CMS, workflow systems, mobile first employee experience, and end user support. This Sr. Site Reliability - DevOps Engineer role is expected to apply a software engineering mindset to system administration topics elevating the availability, reliability, and security of solutions while reducing operational costs.
SPECIFIC SOLUTIONS INCLUDE:
- Expertise on Cloud Technologies: A strong understanding of the infrastructure and services offered by both AWS and Azure, including compute, storage, network, and database services. Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and other containerization technologies needed.
- Improve and make enhancements to our platform infrastructure using Terraform, and Cloud Formation Templates.
- Experience with container services (ECS, Fargate)
- Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD): experience with CI/CD tools and processes, such as GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, AWS Code Pipeline, and AWS CodeBuild.
- Configuration Management and Automation: Strong experience with configuration management tools like Ansible and/or Puppet, and automation tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, is essential for provisioning infrastructure, managing configurations, and deploying applications.
- Monitoring and Logging: Experience with monitoring and logging tools like CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, and Log Analytics, and the ability to create custom metrics and alerts, is critical for keeping applications and infrastructure healthy and available.
- Security and Compliance: Understanding of security best practices, such as IAM, RBAC, and least privilege access, and compliance requirements like HIPAA, GDPR, and SOC 2, is essential.
- Scripting and programming languages: You should be proficient in scripting and programming languages like Python and/or PowerShell. This will help you automate tasks and write scripts for infrastructure management.
- Estimate development time based on requirements, track progress via tools such as ServiceNow and/or Microsoft’s Planner, documenting progress often and completing work withing committed timeframes.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to the overall knowledge base of the team.
- Implement integrations as needed for Workplace Solutions applications.
- Deploy enhancements, change requests, and bug fixes.
- Work closely with the software developers to identify, implement, and maintain efficient and reliable CI/CD pipelines.
- Provide Level 3 technical support engineers with high-level and escalated incidents.
- Build tools to automate processes and reduce occurrences of manual errors.
- Perform root cause analysis for production errors.
- Develop scripts to automate visualization.
- Design procedures for system troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Execute and automate operational processes fast, accurately, and securely.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
- 5 years of experience in DevOps Engineering.
- Problem-solving attitude.
- Linux/Windows operating system internals, debugging, and best practices.
- Strong eye for information cyber security (zero-trust, machine identity, authentication, authorization, secrets abstraction).
- Experience with Cloud Services AWS, Microsoft Azure.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Collaboration and Communication: Excellent collaboration and communication skills, including the ability to work in cross-functional teams, communicate technical details to non-technical stakeholders, and mentor team members, are critical for success as a DevOps Engineer.
- Document processes and best practices: DevOps engineers should document processes, procedures, and best practices related to cloud infrastructure management, automation, and deployment. This documentation will help to standardize processes and improve collaboration across teams.
- Collaborate with development teams: DevOps engineers work closely with development teams to understand their requirements, provide support and feedback, and ensure that the applications are deployed correctly and securely.
