The Challenge
We are looking for a senior engineer to join our Roadway Design team that produces and reviews roadway design plans, lighting, and electrical plans, and provides technical expertise to internal and external partners.
In this role you will:
- Deliver technology and design support to NCDOT staff and private engineering firms relating to the preparation of roadway design plans.
- Provide business support to our Roadway Design teams.
- Troubleshoot and respond to inquiries from NCDOT staff and private engineering firms related to the use of MicroStation, GeoPak, Corridor Modeling, Open Roads Technology (ORD), and other software platforms used during plan production.
- Develop and maintain roadway design ORD workspace standards and coordinate with other technical units and Information Technology teams, as needed, to ensure a holistic approach to ORD implementation.
- Develop training materials relating to the use of software platforms used by engineers in the preparation and review of roadway design plans.
- Develop and deliver classroom and online presentations and/or trainings.
- Assist in training junior engineers and Transportation Engineering Associates to develop their knowledge of roadway design and design software platforms.
- Review prequalification packages from private engineering firms.
What You Bring
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles (especially relating to highway design), AASHTO guidelines, and NCDOT policies and procedures.
- Experience producing engineered design plans and construction estimates for all stages of the project development process.
- Experience using Bentley’s design software and workspaces (MicroStation, GeoPak, Corridor Modeling and OpenRoads Designer) and ProjectWise.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare technical training documentation and presentations and communicate the information in a clear, concise, and organized manner.
- Demonstrated ability to train junior engineers and Transportation Engineering Associates.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, and
- 4 years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.

- We may require you to be registered as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
