What are the responsibilities and job description for the Actuarial Consultant position at NCCI?
ABOUT THIS POSITION:
Join the leader in workers compensation data and information services in the role of an Actuarial Consultant where you will lead complex actuarial projects to produce or enhance NCCI’s actuarial products and services, such as rate filings, legislative cost analyses, reserving, and research. You will share your expertise with junior staff.
WHAT WILL YOU DO IN THIS POSITION:
Act as project leader to produce rate filings, legislative cost analyses, reserving, data validation, products, and/or research. This includes coordinating the work of project team members, utilizing actuarial systems and programming skills to access and organize the data, performing the applicable actuarial calculations, evaluating and adjusting methodologies as indicated, analyzing complex information, assessing the reasonability of results and drawing conclusions, presenting and defending the results to internal and external audiences, and completing documentation.
Sit and pass actuarial exams. NCCI offers an Actuarial Student Program.
Lead or perform as a major contributor on complex special projects. This may involve:
More advanced actuarial analyses, development of system specifications, complex programming and data analysis, development of new processes, and presentations.
Providing independent quality review of the work of others
Developing subject matter expertise and analytical/technical skills of team members.
Providing constructive and actionable feedback regarding the performance of project team members to the individuals and their managers
WHAT YOU MUST BRING TO THE ROLE:
Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of four (4) years of actuarial experience, including project leadership, and five (5) CAS-accredited actuarial exams

In writing and verbally -clearly and concisely, able to explain complex topics in an easy-to-understand manner

Technical Expertise:
Expertise in actuarial analysis using various methodologies; advanced data analysis skills
WHAT WILL MAKE YOU A MORE VIABLE CANDIDATE:
Experience in workers compensation in an actuarial role with a carrier
Advanced degree in mathematics, computer science and/or data science
Statistical modeling experience; working knowledge of MS Office applications, programming expertise (e.g., R, SQL, VBA and/or Python)
Familiarity with NCCI’s products and data
