Job Title: Assistant Controller
Job Classification (Exempt or Non-exempt): Exempt
Reports To: Chief Financial and Resources Officer
Job Summary: Accountant will design processes and outcome reports that are effective and efficient, enable excellent financial, ensure financial integrity, and promote excellent employment practices. Accounting responsibilities include those for NCHSF as well as NCHS.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Finance
a. Oversee the financial planning process.
i. Design a process that involves department and work unit managers as well as senior managers and the Board of Directors.
ii. Design reports that accurately communicate planned financial outcomes for the companies, departments, and programs within departments.
iii. Monitor and report actual results compared to the plan via monthly reports.
b. Prepare month-end accounting entries, code invoices and reconcile accounts.
c. Reviews and distribute monthly financial reports, including aged Accounts Receivable Reports, Income Statements, Investment Portfolio Activity Statement, Restricted Fund Statements. Appeals and Events Income/Profitability Statements, Job-accounting Reports (e.g. financial status of strategic initiatives, grant-funded programs, and employee education investment.), etc.
d. Create and periodically distribute supplemental management information and financial control reports.
e. Provide information for special requests such as the following.
i. Financial history and plans (budgets) for grant applications
ii. Financial status of grant-funded programs
iii. Fee-based service analyses
iv. Cost accounting analyses
v. Investment analyses
vi. Special project reports
f. Verify payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensure payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
g. Manage cash balances, and coordinate intercompany money transfers with our investments custodian.
h. Share disbursements and receipts workload with Accountant and Human Resource Specialist to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and timeframe standards.
i. Prepare required governmental compensation and tax reports, including quarterly Form 941’s and annual W-2’s and 1099’s.
j. Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documentation to perform annual audit.
2. Provides supervisory responsibility by:
a. Directing, supporting and supervision to Billing Specialist.
b. Administers performance evaluations of direct report staff and makes recommendations to the Chief Financial and Resources Officer for salary adjustments.
Supplemental Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Be cross-trained in duties in duties of Accountant and Human Resource Specialist.
2. Assist completion of special reports and analyses of financial information.
3. Demonstrate respect, appreciation, and sensitivity for diversity.
4. Perform other duties as assigned by Chief Financial and Resources Officer.
Qualifications and Requirements:
1. Minimum education and experience:
a. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline required, master’s degree preferred.
b. Job experience in one or more of the three areas, preferred.
c. Three to five years of accounting experience required.
3. Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
a. Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
b. Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
c. Interacts and communicates with employees and vendors professionally.
d. Processes information accurately and documents transactions/decisions well.
e. Works as a multi-function manager.
f. Recognizes problematic issues, visualizes improvements, and balances urgency with importance. Desires win/win solutions, seeks to understand then to be understood, and promotes synergistic results.
g. Utilizes personal computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electric mail, and custom finance applications.
h. Possesses driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance.
4. Physical demands:
a. Walk, sit, climb, talk, and hear.
b. Operate office equipment.
c. Lift objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
5. Schedule demands (travel, adjustments to accommodate clients, weekends/evenings, etc.):
a. Periodic short-period travel to other Agency sites and for conferences and meetings

a. Office environment and virtually
b. Periodic travel
Salary Range: 70k – 75k
