Position Summary:
This position is responsible for working collaboratively with all staff to maintain a program that includes an organized series of experiences designed to meet the needs of all participating children. This position is directly responsible for maintaining adult: child ratio in the classroom. This person will be responsible for transporting and/or monitoring the children to and from school and to and from field trips as needed. This position will be responsible for filling in, as needed and as requested, by the Teacher and Area Manager. Work is performed under the supervision of the Area Manager, and reviewed through regular supervision, reports, and program achievements.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Clean classroom areas the children use daily.
- Daily Child Observations-observe and take notes while in class with children. Enter in these observations after class or as soon as possible to capture the observations.
- Learning Genie. Upload: pictures, happenings, funny kid quotes, reminders for In Kind, Helpful Hints, Classroom Activities, Extension Activities, Homework, In Kind tutorials, Virtual Field Trips, etc., as requested.
- Maintain dependable, punctual attendance. Adhere to appropriate break times.
- Read the lesson plans daily, be ready and willing to teach when needed or decided (per Teacher request).
- Responsible to make certain all KDHE licensing accident/incident reports are reported and filled out to the Area Manager. The documents will be scanned in the day they occur to Health & Safety Manager and the Director of Human Resources.
- Maintain and assure confidentiality and privacy of NEK-CAP, Inc. and our customers.
- Responsible for active supervision during the times the children are present in the classroom, playground, on field trips and family engagement activities.
- Help create and develop lesson plans. The Teacher will assign who will be developing each section of lesson plans.
- Gather needed materials for the lesson plans and complete all other prep work and be ready to implement the lesson plans as requested.
- Change classroom toys out. Clean and wipe down toys before they are put away. Add new toys to the classroom, add new pictures, take pictures, if necessary, on shelves to label as needed.
- Vacuum and mop as requested. Steam mop floors as needed.
- Attend, participate in trainings, conferences, staff meetings, reflective supervision, coaching and in-service days.
- Assist Assistant Teacher in checking toothbrushes and replace as needed.
- Assist as needed in Family Engagement Activities.
- Assist setting up developmentally appropriate classroom(s) environments based on the Curriculum and Head Start Performance Standards using the Fidelity tool of the Curriculum and your site Education Manager.
- All staff must review Children’s Orientation paperwork including Health Assessment, immunization records Contact and release form, IHP and INHP, prior to them entering the center. Complete any required health related trainings.
- Provide one on one support for children recognized as needing extra support and/or instruction.

Education and Qualifications
High School Graduate or GED required. Associates degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred or CDA (Child Development Associate) credential for 3-5 year olds. Must be willing to work at obtaining a CDA credential to be completed within 2 years and/or work toward an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education Obtain Driver Improvement/AAA certification and First Aid and CPR certification and keep current, attend training in child abuse and neglect, blood borne pathogens upon hire. Successfully complete and pass a physical exam, TB skin test and drug screen before beginning employment. Submit to and pass criminal background/history check in compliance with State of Kansas Child Care Licensing. Possess current valid state driver’s license and personal automobile insurance and present upon hire. CDL (Commercial Driver s License) upon hire.
