Nemours is seeking a Supervisor, Therapeutic & Rehabilitation Services (Full-Time), to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Orlando, Florida.

Located in Orlando, Fla., Nemours Children's Hospital is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated healthcare system. Our 100-bed pediatric hospital also features the area's only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids as well as outpatient pediatric clinics including several specialties previously unavailable in the region. In keeping with our goal of bringing Nemours care into the communities we serve, we also provide specialty outpatient care in several clinics located throughout.

Coordinates and ensures the clinical integrity and daily operations of the designated clinical program(s) in collaboration with Director within Therapeutic and Rehabilitative Services. Responsible for providing team leadership and management of patient care. Oversees ongoing development and retention of qualified clinical staff through programmatic education, and staff training needs. Responsible for participation in hospital and departmental programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.

Provides evaluation, treatment and consultation independently to patients across programs under the prescription of a physician within the guidelines designated by department and hospital policy and procedures. Demonstrates clinical competency in direct patient care. Position is mixed clinical and administrative.

Personnel Management


  • Provides supervisory management of multidisciplinary team members which may include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology, Assistive Technology and/or support staff. This includes annual associate development, evaluations and disciplinary action. \\
  • Facilitates communication and team building of the multidisciplinary team, including facilitating a collaborative and supportive relationship between key departments.
  • Assists with coordinating recruitment, hiring, and competency-based orientation.
  • Maintains 100% staff compliance in completion of all annual mandatory inservice programs, and policies and procedures as outlined in the Policy Manual and as required by JCAHO/CARF.
  • Maintains and reviews annually 100% clinical staff compliance with clinical and age specific competencies, including per diem staff.
  • Insures proper daily function and execution of patient care services and programs of responsibility.
  • Fosters a collaborative program management style.
  • Ensures staff compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates strong cost conscious awareness by analyzing service expenditures, effectively utilizing staff and supplies. Collaborates with the Director for budget development.
  • Acknowledge and encourage discipline specific skills, mentoring and clinical excellence

Program Management
  • Responsible for maintaining program philosophy, goals, and objectives consistent with the mission of the Department and Hospital, and in compliance with regulatory agencies (JCAHO/CARF).
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of a programmatic CQI/Program Evaluation annual plan to assure quality patient care, outcome and consumer satisfaction. Leads process improvement teams for designated programs.
  • In coordination with the Director, facilitates meetings.
  • Utilizes Benchmarking data for program analysis and improvement as appropriate, provides quarterly reports to Director.
  • Works collaboratively with Supervisors within Therapeutic & Rehabilitative Services.

Marketing and Public Relations
  • Assists in resolving complaints, concerns or issues arising for all customers (patients, families, other departments, community).
  • Assists with the development and implementation of annual business development/marketing plans for the program.
  • Fosters positive internal and external public relations.
  • Develops and maintains effective communication with referral sources.

Fiduciary Responsibilities
  • Accountable for resource efficiency within program/department.
  • Coordinates and authorizes purchase requests for supplies.
  • Coordinates the ordering of equipment and supplies in accordance with hospital guidelines for purchasing with input from appropriate staff.
  • Assists in the preparation of the capital and operating budgets, and efficiently monitors the program to provide appropriate level of care.

Program Policy and Procedures
  • Assists with the development of Policies and Procedures, orientation and training programs that are program specific, ensuring staff compliance.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all applicable licensing, regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Assists with preparation and participates in regulatory/accreditation surveys.

Continuous Improvement
  • Identifies the importance of CI concepts and utilizes them in the development and improvement of processes.
  • Works willingly and effectively with change.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Provides all data and reports (formal and informal) in a thorough, organized, professional and visually appropriate manner.

Staff Education and Programming
  • Acts as resource to staff, affiliating students, and other health care providers.
  • To maintain the excellent standard of care, identifies ongoing educational needs for the program, staff, and hospital by coordinating inservices.

Direct Patient Care Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages; pediatrics, adolescents and adults.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of neonates as required by assignment.
  • Performs all essential and marginal responsibilities of a Senior Therapist.
  • Evaluates patients for occupational therapy treatment including splinting, positioning, adaptive equipment, home programs, home accessibility, etc. Independently provides and coordinates age-appropriate occupational therapy treatment plans and treatment in typical patient care situations. Provides information, evaluation, treatment and support to families while considering the lifelong implications for various diagnoses of the patient.
  • Consults with other services, families, and outside agencies to recommend equipment, home or school modifications, transition of care, etc.
  • Assists in coordinating outside agencies to recommend durable medical equipment, home/school modifications and transitional therapy program prior to discharge from therapy/hospital.
  • Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy, The Joint Commission, and CARF standards.
  • Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member. Takes leadership role as indicated by team/supervisor - Case management, care team leader.
  • Maintains knowledge of insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services.
  • Provides inservice training programs and follows specific protocols/pathways for direct patient care issues as mandated by hospital specialty programs. When applicable works with staff to review and revise protocols/pathways.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in basic splinting techniques.
  • Begins to develop clinical skills in a specialty area within the occupational therapy discipline.
  • Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Assists with maintenance of department equipment

Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities


  • Performs all Indirect Care Responsibilities as a Sr. Therapist

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree required in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy or Speech Language Pathology required. Advanced degree in Health Care Administration or related area preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience required.
  • Three (3) years in pediatrics required.
  • Florida State License in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy or Speech Language Pathology required.
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification required within 6 months of employment.
  • Member of professional specialty organizations (AOTA, APTA, ASHA), preferred.
