Details: Mechanical Engineering degree, does not have to be PE, 5 plus years’ experience. Consider candidates that have chemical, refinery, power energy exp. etc. Experience with specifying out equipment, has design experience.
Under general supervision, independently applies advanced engineering techniques, makes decisions on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions or to negotiate with key engineers and officials of other organizations. Provides technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers and is consulted extensively by associates and others with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretations and advice. Job role is responsible for a measurable asset such as an assigned staff and budget.
Responsibilities
- Develops scope, cost and schedules for all projects related to fire protection.
- Coordinate designs with the civil group for underground piping loops and required coverage parameters.
- Responsible for review of layout drawings for conformance with model and local codes as well as NFPA requirements
- Responsible for vendor drawing review and interdisciplinary design coordination.
- Clearly documents fire protection design basis, hazardous substances, and calculations related to fire safety.
- Ability to work as a member of an integrated engineering team to produce a coherent, executable construction package.
Requirements/Qualifications
- BSME / Fire Protection required
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) license preferred
- 10 years of experience related to the design, specification and purchase of fire protection design and related building support systems for various manufacturing industries
- Must have complete understanding of fire protection design tasks such as sprinkler design criteria specification, preliminary hydraulic calculations, fire pump selection and fire alarm system layout
- Demonstrated knowledge of NFPA Codes and related industry best practices
- Engineer should have experience with other standard manufacturing / industrial utility equipment such as cooling towers, chillers, heat exchangers, and other utility type systems
- Must have experience with development of project scope, work hour estimates, project budgets, schedules, and mechanical construction deliverables
- 5 years’ experience in the design, specification, and installation of fire protection systems in the manufacturing / industrial processes (power, refineries, nuclear, or similar)
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Experience with 3-D modeling programs (PDMS, E3D), a plus
