The Role
- Transform design goals into tangible layouts with precision and creativity.
- Develop comprehensive design studies, drawings, and supporting documentation.
- Uphold Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles, integrating manufacturing capabilities into every project.
- Lead the Engineering Change Request/Notice (ECR/ECN) process for product design changes.
- Spearhead the construction and testing of prototypes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Collaborate seamlessly across departments to drive product enhancements.
- Actively contribute to the investigation of capital expenditure projects for manufacturing efficiency.
- Manage ERP data with accuracy and efficiency, ensuring the integrity of Item Masters, BOM’s, and Routings.
- Provide invaluable manufacturing support and identify opportunities for process enhancements.
- Mentor and support less experienced team members, contributing to a culture of growth.
- Exceptional internal communication skills, promoting a collaborative teamwork approach.
- Proven creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong technical writing skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD & Solidworks.
- Familiarity with ERP Systems – Item Masters, BOM’s, and Routings.
- Adept at using the Microsoft Office suite of software.
- Application of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering documents.
- Proficient in sheet metal fabrication design, including flat development, weldments, and stamping.
- Experience in plastics design is a plus.
- Associate Degree (A.A.) from a 2-year college or technical school.
- 5 or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in a low volume/high mix manufacturing environment is desired.
- Computer/Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Engineering design (CAD) software (AutoCAD & SolidWorks preferred).
- Knowledge of ERP systems.
- Proficient in Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.
- A role that blends new product design with hands-on prototyping and maintenance.
- Involvement in mechanical system design, sheet metal processing, and drafting.
- Opportunities to work with extrusions (aluminum or plastic) and/or molded parts.
- This role requires being equally happy sitting at a computer doing drafting and out in the shop producing physical prototypes. (Drafting 70% / Prototyping 30%)
