POSITION SUMMARY
The Tissue Donation Specialist (TDS) supports the mission, goals, and strategic plan of Nevada Donor Network Inc. (NDN) by providing clinical support to facilitate the safe, efficient procurement of tissues. (TDS) also serves to promote effective communication with relevant stakeholders to facilitate donations including organizational recovery staff, funeral homes, hospitals, and medicolegal partners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions Statement(s):
- Performs responsibilities of position and promotes teamwork and a professional working environment
- Coordinates donor case logistics including release and transportation with internal, hospital, funeral, and medicolegal partners
- Participates in clinical screening and evaluation to determine donor suitability
- Recovers donated human tissue for transplantation and research
- Prepares donated tissues and relevant materials such as blood and cultures, for shipping
- Completes all required donor charts and related reports completely, accurately, and in a timely manner according to protocol
- Actively participates in meetings and required training sessions
- Assists and supports the development of clinical metrics, scorecards, and process improvement projects to reflect individual, departmental, and company goals
- Serves as a preceptor for the training of new staff
- Completes daily tasks such as basic supply management, instrument maintenance, routine cleaning of clinical facilities, etc.
- Applies Universal Precautions and appropriate safety precautions at all times
- Attains knowledge with and adheres to the regulations, policies, and procedures published by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), NDN, and our outside partners
- Maintains confidentiality on all donor-related activities and internal matters
- May serve as lead with various administrative duties including but not limited to:
- Coordination of logistics and work-related travel, scheduling, meeting facilitation, management of tissue storage and disposition
- Asset management including calibrations, validations, qualifications, scheduled servicing, records retention, and upkeep of relevant protocols
- Medical records and billing including managing requests from both internal and external partners, contributing to the use and ongoing development of record tracking systems, facilitating both billing processes and knowledge of various EMR platforms
- Inventory management including the use of inventory tracking systems, stocking and restocking of supplies, and knowledge of related protocols (FIFO, par levels, labeling, etc.)
- Quality management including the filing and resolution of corrections, root cause analyses, partner complaints, doc control, internal auditing, etc.
- Training includes the management of training records, the ability to provide recovery-related instruction (hands-on and classroom), the capacity to ensure updates and bulletins are shared, implemented, and documented accordingly, etc.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, policy updates, and other intradepartmental collaboratives
- Assists with Ocular, Organ recovery, and Birth Tissue call schedule as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (preferred); relevant work experience may be substituted for academic requirements
Experience: Six months to one year of healthcare-related experience (preferred); minimum one-year tissue banking experience (required)
Computer Skills: Knowledge of MS office programs
Certificates & Licenses: RN, Paramedic/EMT, CST licenses considered. CTBS certification (preferred)
Other Requirements: Knowledge of basic aseptic technique, universal precautions, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is required. Availability on-call or on-site, according to a fixed schedule, and ability to participate in (12) hour shift rotations, as a member of the clinical staff. Required to have a personal cell phone, remaining within a reasonable radius to respond to case activity within (1) hour. Travel by personal auto may be required to meet all of the duties and responsibilities of the position, and thus reliable transportation is a must.
