What are the responsibilities and job description for the PATIENT CARE PARTNER-Full Time Day, Position # 22642, EOW position at New Bridge Medical Center?
Assists physicians and registered nurses by performing routine and technical duties during emergency situations and those related duties specified below. Under direct guidance of the Registered Nurse, provides safe and competent care to all patients in a variety of age groups. Performs clerical functions necessary to functioning of department.
Patient care responsibilities are delivered with knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
Answers patient questions and gives instructions to attempt to reduce patient’s anxiety and fear at an acceptable level after consulting RN; directs patient to appropriate source of problem solving.
Performs clerical functions to assure physician’s orders are carried out, including order entry, assembling patient charts when necessary, obtaining computer generated requisition slips for laboratory tests and 12-lead EKG’s.
Completes patient rounding every hour, asking patient if everything is okay and inquiring if anything can be done for him/her.
Introduces him/herself, including title and stating reason for visit upon each communication with patient.
Answers departmental telephones within four rings using appropriate telephone etiquette-Emergency Department, “Name” speaking, how may I help you? All callers will be asked if it is okay to place them on hold if necessary prior to placing on hold.
Assures that all treatment rooms are immediately cleaned upon a patient’s discharge and ready for the next patient. This includes placing linen on stretcher with sheet, pillow and blanket and a patient gown. Stocking treatment room with all necessary supplies, wrapping leads, B/P cuffs and pulse oximeter from EKG monitor neatly. Disposes of any trash, supplies, needles and sharps (into sharps containers).
Reports any missing or broken equipment to charge nurse.
Maintains adequate inventory of equipment in I.V., suture, orthopedic, supply carts.
Maintains proper handling of used instruments and equipment as appropriate; places used instruments in the soiled utility room for sterilization as directed and returns equipment to proper storage areas.
Escorts patients into treatment rooms, provides needed assistance to patients with getting undressed and into a patient gown. Completes patient valuables list completely and accurately upon placement into a treatment room with assistance from primary care nurse. Places all patient belongings in appropriate storage areas.
Takes complete set of vital signs as requested including B/P, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, O2 saturation.
Places patient on cardiac monitor as requested by the primary care nurse.
Collects specimens from patients and performs procedures in accordance with policies and procedures (urine specimens, venipunctures, 12-lead EKGs, blood glucose).
Assists patients with all activities of daily living including feeding, cleaning, bathing, turning and ambulating to restroom when appropriate. Perform wound care, obtain and record height and weights, perform CPR as required as well as other related duties.
Transports patients to and from diagnostic examinations and in-patient room as required. Transports laboratory specimens to the lab as required and in a timely manner.
Assist with orientation of new PCP’s as requested.
Assist physicians with procedures as appropriate.
