The New Castle County's Department of Public Works will have openings for temporary seasonal employees in our Fleet Maintenance sections. Positions work up to 37.5 hours per week for no more than six (6) months per calendar year. Applicants must be 16 years of age, and a valid driver's license may be required depending upon position. Selected applicants must pass a background check and drug screen prior to their start date.
AUTO TECHNOLOGY VO-TECH STUDENTS This position is for candidates who are currently enrolled in an
Auto Technology Program at a vocational technical school. Preferred candidates are those who have finished at least two years of the
Auto Technology Program curriculum. The essential duties of the position are core functions common to all levels of the position and are not intended to be an exhaustive list.
- Individuals will work under the guidance of a certified licensed automotive technician and assist with various automotive repairs on gasoline and diesel powered vehicles
- Help diagnose mechanical issues
- Assist with preventive maintenance
- Cleaning of fleet vehicles
- Maintain a clean garage workplace
- Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Other duties as assigned.
AUTO TECHNOLOGY WORKER I - Full Time Positions(PWW I, $10.10-$11.10/hr.)This is entry-level work with no experience required; however, individuals must meet minimum age qualifications to secure a work permit.
AUTO TECHNOLOGY WORKER II - Full Time Positions(PWW II, $10.60-$11.60/hr.)Applicant must have at least one (1) year experience in work related to the duties performed and possession of a high school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of experience, education or training directly related to the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
AUTO TECHNOLOGY III – Full Time Positions(PWW III, $11.10-$12.10/hr.) Applicants must have at least three (3) years' experience in work related to the duties to be performed (experience must have been at the supervisory level if the duties of the position require supervision) and possession of a high school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of experience, education or training directly related to the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
