Senior Position: Program and Partnership Director
New City Parks (NCP) is seeking a highly effective, experienced, organized, and creative thinker to serve as Program and Partnership Director. The Program and Partnership Director will be a collaborative and dynamic team member who will develop, coordinate, and implement organizing strategies to ensure equity and community participation in the design process: that all voices are heard, and input is integrated into plans, designs, construction, and stewardship. The Program and
Partnership Director will develop partnerships and agreements with local groups and cities to help to steward and program these community parks (such as: YMCA; local farmers; sports groups, schools, churches…etc.) so they are well-used, safe, and welcoming.
The Program and Partnership Director will engage in a wide range of activities to advance New
City Parks’ goal of building more equitable access to quality green spaces in underserved, urban communities.

Qualifications/Education/Professional Experience:
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and programs; 3-5 years related experience and familiarity with park design and development a plus.
- Experience in collaborating and negotiating with diverse groups and interests.
- Experience in working with community leaders, agency staff, elected officials and local media to promote and implement successful projects.
- Experience leading teams; effectively facilitating and organizing meetings and finding consensus or comfort in no consensus.
- Experience with negotiating and overseeing signed agreements to define respective roles of partners.
- Experience with timelines, deadlines, and time pressures.
- Possess an entrepreneurial spirit, and initiative and the capacity to lead, mentor and inspire others as well as being a team player, with common sense and resiliency.
- Strong execution, analytical and organizational skills and demonstrated experience in prioritizing and executing multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail and delivering results.
- Available to work flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekend events.
- Willingness to travel throughout the Northeast as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Spanish-speaking and writing a plus.
Compensation: This is a position with a salary range of $60k – $80k (commensurate with experience) and access to a highly competitive benefits package.
Principle Responsibilities include:
Working in close coordination with the Executive Director and the Design and Project Director as well as the New City Parks staff to undertake the following responsibilities, among others:
- Develop and execute cohesive field and digital organizing strategies to support and promote park projects, identify community partners, and develop future programmatic plans.
- Build connections, identify opportunities, and manage strategic relationships with key stakeholders—including environmental organizations, community housing, local and social justice organizations, service providers, educational institutions, and faith groups.
- Form and lead collaborations and community-based processes to inform planning and development of NCP’s parks’ projects, programming, and stewardship.
- Oversee program partnerships with local non-profits and community groups in support of park development, green schoolyards, and stewardship goals.
- Utilize a wide array of techniques to achieve program goals, including tabling, outreach, canvassing, organizing and hosting community forums, and coalition and base-building activities.
- Provide thorough reporting of organizing activities and outcomes for internal and external meetings, board committees, funders, and external communications.
- Work with the NCP team to promote programming visibility and funding support.
- Contribute to creating the ongoing vision and strategy for New City Parks.
ABOUT NEW CITY PARKS New City Parks (NCP) is an initiative founded in 2019 to address the lack of thriving urban parks in neighborhoods of need. NCP focuses on putting parks on the ground in Northeastern cities. The first tranche of cities includes Buffalo, NY; Jersey City, NJ; Paterson, NJ; and Poughkeepsie, NY. NCP develops committed and close working relationships with city mayors and senior staff, as well as with partner organizations in communities. NCP builds strategic capacity to implement park build-outs, while also facilitating community involvement in design, stewardship, and programming. Rose Harvey, who founded NCP, is the former Commissioner of NYS Parks and previously National Director of Urban Programs for the Trust for Public Land.
