Principal Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director of Youth, Camp and Family Engagement is a full-time professional position responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the youth, camp and family department. Essential functions include: a) Recruiting staff and campers, developing curriculum, and overseeing all operational functions associated with summer camp, mini camps, school days out programs, and child care; b) Supervising and working closely with departmental staff to develop year-round programs and events for school-age children and their families; and c) Working collaboratively with departmental staff, Early Childhood department and other JCC departments.

  • Develop, implement and supervise all operations related to day camp for 500 campers in preschool and grades K-8. This includes hiring and supervision, budget planning and fiscal management, marketing, recruitment, planning daily schedules, special events, overnights field trips, and theme days.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, train, and evaluate 100 part time counselors, head teachers, and specialists for day camp.
  • Effectively communicate with JCC staff, parents, and vendors - during camp registration period as well as throughout the year.
  • Implement Judaic curriculum and values throughout camp and other programs using knowledge of Judaic practices.
  • Work collaboratively with marketing department and JCC counterparts in Metairie to develop publication materials for department.
  • Create new and innovative camp, youth and family programs and events. Plan and develop after school programs working closely with the departmental staff.
  • Develop and monitor department budget.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Degree in recreation, education or related field. Master s Degree preferred.
  • 5 years experience working with children and families in a camp, school or recreational setting with progressive leadership experience.
  • Strong camping and Jewish programming background preferred.
  • Experience successfully leading large teams and supervising staff and children.
  • Ability to effectively communicate -verbally and in writing - with children, parents, co-workers, and staff.
  • Ability to prioritize, use time efficiently, develop realistic action plans, analyze and solve problems.
  • Experience with Google Suite and Camp Minder is a plus
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, move throughout the JCC campus to perform normal duties.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Lead by example; follow all NOJCC policies and procedures as defined in the NOJCC Handbook and as directed by Agency leadership.
  • First Aid and CPR, or the ability to become certified.
