Polymer Chemist
New Pig has an exciting opportunity available for a chemist with experience in analysis, formulation, and technical application of plastics, adhesives, polyurethanes, and polymer materials for a manufacturer of specialty products.
This onsite position is based at our Tipton PA office.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (What you will be doing):
- Design, develop, test, and evaluate formulations for new and existing products including (but not limited to) products made from adhesive coatings, molded plastics, and polyurethanes
- Apply statistical and analytical methods to establish product validity, cost effectiveness, and manufacturability of products to specification
- Perform lab bench work, use analytical instruments, and document formulation process; provide scale-up activities of final design, establish raw materials, production process, and finalized production specification, ensure formulations comply with quality objectives
- Create material and application process specifications
- Using customer insights, help design and develop new products (or improvements to existing products) that provide solutions for customer applications
- Troubleshoot and research root cause customer issues, provide technical support on product application with customers
- Develop and validate current and new manufacturing processes, research new technologies, equipment, and processes to ensure manufacturability of new products and enhanced formulations
- Work closely with 3rd party suppliers and consultants on prototypes, materials, testing, and conformance approvals. Work cross functionally with engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, customers, and suppliers to ensure reliable formulation and commercialization process
- Production technical support – assists production on an as-needed bases to resolve technical issue around supplier issues, raw materials or equipment and processing issues
- Support field testing on products at customer or supplier sites; provide data analysis on new product formulation to ensure application and validity
Experience & Qualifications (What we need from you):
Education: Degree in Chemistry (BS, Masters, or Doctorate)
Preferably 7 years of experience in:
- Conducting and directing work on polymer chemistries
- Product and process development
- Supervising and directing technicians
- Comfortable with having direct customer contact / interaction
- Experience with industrial manufacturing processes
- Working knowledge of the regulatory landscape related to the use, manufacture, sale and disposal of chemicals and products with a chemistry component
- Project management – internal and external
- Project documentation and creating reports
- Knowledge of prudent lab practices
- Some programming experience a plus
