Responsibilities

This position is responsible for performing molecular analysis on nucleic acids extracted from patient and donor specimens. This position supports, coordinates and participates in the planning and execution of the daily activities in research studies. This position works closely with laboratory director(s) and staff in the Genomics lab, across lab lines (for example Immunohematology lab) and across department lines (for example Hospital Services).   

 

  • Supports, coordinates, and performs research studies.
  • Preforms laboratory-developed and kit-based molecular tests in the Genomics Laboratory.
  • Performs applicable QC for tests and instruments.
  • Performs PCR, RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, sequencing, and data analysis, among other assays.
  • Receives and stores laboratory supplies and reagents. informs manager of status of supplies and reagents as necessary.
  • Performs tasks to Maintain equipment in optimal condition. maintains refrigerator and freezer logs.
  • Ensures workspace and equipment is clean and maintains cleaning logs.
  • Monitors laboratory safety, follows safety procedures, and uses PPE as directed by SOPs.
  • Maintains legible, accurate, detailed and up-to-date records of testing.
  • Manages data by entering test results into and generating reports from theBECS and Hemetrics.
  • Enters new sequences into GenBank.

Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree in Biological Sciences or Medical Technology or equivalent education. More than 5 years of lab experience.  Blood group experience preferred.  Experience in data management, statistics, and analysis preferred.
