The Putney School Tutor/Learning Specialist Position The Putney School, a progressive secondary boarding school, has an opening for a tutor/learning specialist in our Center for Teaching and Learning starting in the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate will be eager to participate in anti-racist work and use an inclusive, social justice lens in their work with all students and adults on campus. Using a strength-based approach, our program helps students to develop the tools, self-awareness, and advocacy skills necessary to become confident, active, and independent learners. Job responsibilities include: Working with students in a one-on-one or small group setting to deliver executive function coaching, literacy development, study skills strategies, and content area tutoring. Helping students engage with reading complex literature and academic texts and develop an effective, individualized writing process. Provide drop-in sessions and supervise evening study labs. Read psychoeducational evaluations and create learning profiles to share relevant information with a student's team. Collaborate with other CTL colleagues, Putney faculty, and administration. Participate in department meetings, in-service and professional development days, and other school community functions. Qualifications of the ideal candidate: Master's degree, preferably in Reading, English or Learning Differences. At least three years direct experience working with students with diagnosed learning differences including dyslexia, ADHD, and executive functioning challenges. Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, colleagues, and other professionals. Interest and demonstrated ability in teaching and supporting adolescents, flexibility, energy, collegiality, and the ability to work effectively with a team. Sound understanding of the cognitive and social-emotional developmental stages of adolescents. Understanding of or an interest in UDL and cognitive neuroscience. Is in alignment with the school's focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice work and is committed to growing this critical skill set.
