Position Title: Inventory Analyst
Location: Chicago/Wichita, Outdoor and Recreation Division
Reports To: Manager, Supply Chain Operations
Summary: The Inventory Analyst is responsible for proactively leading the Company’s efforts on inventory controls and for providing solutions for maintaining inventory levels that meet the stated Company goals of profitable, in-full/on-time deliveries to customers. By developing new and existing reports, maintaining accurate records & data, and collaborating cross-functionally, the inventory analyst will be a key stakeholder in day-to-day and strategic decision making related to demand forecasts, order schedules, lead times, and inventory levels. The Inventory Analyst works primarily with the Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Sales Planning, Finance, and Newell’s centralized Supply Chain team to provide accurate information regarding inventory levels and provide insights of categories, international suppliers, and logistics.
MAJOR JOB REPSONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
Reporting:
- Possess a basic understanding of all events that drive and impact supply and demand requirements, system triggers, etc.
- Analyze system-generated inventory data and establish relevant/consistent reporting procedures to support each of the respective BUs in the division.
- Create inventory operating plans on a quarterly basis.
- Identify and escalate risks and opportunities to inventory levels and customer fill rates.
- Excess/obsolete inventory
- Out of stock periods
- Support product/SKU rationalization initiative by identifying profitability risks and opportunities across all product lines.
- Develop and employ knowledge of Newell Supply Chain planning tools, such as Inventory Building Blocks, Integrated Business Planning: Inventory Optimization, End of Life, Magic Quadrant, etc. for above responsibilities
Cross Functional Collaboration:
- Contribute data to the various S&OP cycle meetings.
- Enable sales, marketing, and finance organizations to actively minimize excess and obsolete inventory.
- Partner with Capacity Planning to understand supplier limitations and correlation to overall risk.
- Understand report usage and needs of other cross-functional teams to optimize report(s) to BU/function.
- Coordinate with production scheduling for manufactured goods.
- Facilitate meetings with various teams consisting of sourcing, planning, finance, brand and sales management.
Data Management
- Routinely review accuracy of planning replenishment parameters and master data.
- Support Production/Capacity Planner with new item activation.
- Verify application of various ERPs are employing best practices for each BU
- Manage data change requests from submission to completion with central master data team
Metrics and Goals:
- Enable BU to deliver against key inventory metrics including inventory plan, revised forecasts, DOH, fill rate metrics, excess and obsolete
inventory
- Assume responsibility for inventory of all categories; ensuring service level metrics and inventory targets are achieved.
- Understand key supplier metrics.
- Other tasks that support overall supply planning function, as required.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience, required.
- Minimum 1-3 years of related experience in Supply Chain or Logistics in a consumer products industry, preferably continuous.
- Thorough knowledge of supply and demand planning, logistics, procurement and production planning.
- Previous experience and advanced skillset with global ERP systems required; SAP preferred.
- Strong affinity for technology that goes beyond Excel such as statistical modeling and integrated planning.
- Self-starter with initiative and leadership skills to expand the role and responsibilities within a growing organization.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office 365® suite of applications.
- APICS, CPIM or other Supply Chain Management qualifications is a plus.
- Communication Skills – Strong communication skills in order to collaborate with colleagues and conduct business with both manufacturers and suppliers.
- Critical-thinking Skills – Develop, adjust, and carry out supply plans. Must be able to find ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency while meeting customer needs.
- Organizational Skills – Be able to perform several tasks at one time, keep detailed records, and simultaneously manage several projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-solving Skills – Must handle unforeseen issues, such as delivery or manufacturing delays, or unplanned demand spikes, and adjust as needed to resolve the issues.
- Analytical Skills – Collect and analyze information, problem solve with the data, and make decisions.
