Job Description Summary:

A Senior-level Environmental Engineer at NewFields is responsible for designing and conducting field investigations, managing a variety of laboratory testing programs, and analyzing and designing a variety of active and passive remediation systems (including water treatment) using analytical tools, models, and software. The position requires superior communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to organize and analyze a variety of information to be used for decision-making, and the ability to meet multiple deadlines. An employee in this position is expected to work as a member of diverse project teams and accomplish specific tasks in a fast-paced environment to achieve project-specific objectives. In addition to the technical requirements of the position, it is expected the person in this position will be designated as a Project Manager for particular assignments, requiring skills in managing the scope of work, project schedule and budget, project team, and all safety requirements associated with the tasks.

Requirements

Position Requirements:


Education Requirement: A Bachelor's degree in environmental (or civil) engineering; a Master's degree is preferred. Candidate must be a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.).

Experience Requirement: A minimum of at least ten (10) years of progressively increasing engineering-related experience.

Software: The position requires the applicant to have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office© software, including Microsoft Access (or equivalent). Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D or a similar product is preferred. Working knowledge of various types of numerical modeling and water treatment software programs is advantageous.

 Potential Travel: Travel to project sites located in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Africa, and elsewhere as needed. The longest field assignment will likely be on the order of 1-2 weeks. It is expected that approximately >95% of work time will be spent within the individual's home office.

Job Location: Missoula or Helena, Montana; Boise, Idaho.

Physical Demands: The position requires sitting/standing for long periods, extended hours working on a computer, and lifting to 30 pounds. Field assignments can be located in various environments and cultures, including complex and diverse climates. During field assignments, standing, squatting, bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds may be required over prolonged periods.


Essential Functions:

  • Supporting large engineering design projects and leading small engineering design projects, including developing drawing sets, technical specifications, design reports, technical memoranda, and project manuals, and performing contract administration tasks. The objective of many of the projects will involve the remediation of various contaminants in the environment (air, soil, groundwater, surface water). To meet regulatory requirements, other tasks may include developing closure plans and designs for various facilities, including mine infrastructure and waste disposal areas.
  • Providing support and supervision for environmental investigations/studies, including planning, implementation, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of state or federally-regulated cleanup sites.
  • Interpreting engineering and environmental data (that may include air quality, soil, groundwater, and surface water) to develop conclusions and achieve established objectives;
  • Working with a variety of scientists (particularly geochemists and hydrogeologists) to devise creative and effective means to mitigate various contaminants in the environment to achieve regulatory compliance
  • Supporting other Project Managers through the application of various technical and writing skills to achieve established project-specific objectives;
  • Participating in NewFields' projects acquired and managed by others, as needed; and,
  • Preparing quality technical products under your supervision (or as assigned) on time, measured by internal or external client satisfaction.


Salary Range: $95,000 to $120,000. Salary is negotiable and based on experience. Competitive benefits are offered to full-time employees in this role.
