Responsibilities

The Music Therapist facilitates programming that provides healing through music- based therapy techniques that emphasize clients to explore their feelings, improve their emotional wellbeing and problem-solving skills. 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with Clinical Director or designee to identify and incorporate music activities for clients.
  • Interact with milieu and encourage participation in sessions.
  • Facilitate individual and group sessions as assigned.
  • Demonstrate practice and techniques and safely guide clients.
  • Facilitate passive listening and participatory programs that include playing, singing, and creating music.
  • Design musical interventions based on therapeutic goals to improve psychological, physical and social health.
  • Visually assess clients during musical interventions and measure effectiveness of sessions.
  • Communicate with clinicians and direct care staff as needed.
  • Provide weekly progress updates to treatment team as needed.
  • Complete documentation timely and according to established standards.
  • Provide residential milieu support for clients in

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in music therapy required.
  • Master’s degree in clinical, expressive arts, music therapy or related field
  • Board registered (APC, LAPC, ASW, AMFT) or licensed in the state in which services are provided preferred.
  • CBMT credentialed as Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) preferred, pursuing credential required.
  • Experience working with young adults/adolescents in a behavioral health setting
