What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Director position at Newrest?
This is a complex, management position that relies heavily on accomplishments through cross functional partnerships and by providing oversight and direction to various entities within the organization. This individual sets the tone for the culture of the department and ensures that team members accomplish the work and treats them equitably and respectfully. This individual consistently looks for ideas for continuous improvement of Newrest’s operation, quality and safety standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety and security policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state and local legislation and codes governing environmental health and safety of our daily operations.
- Responsible for driving continuous environmental, health, safety, and security improvement through the implementation, certification, and application of the Newrest policies.
- Conduct safety training programs for employees at all levels to ensure understanding of safety practices and compliance with regulations
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate the risks.
- Oversee the investigation of accidents and incidents, reports, recommend improvements to prevent future occurrences and oversee the risk analysis reports.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans, conducting drills and training exercises to prepare staff for emergencies.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and other applicable safety laws by executing as requested.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related inquiries and concerns, fostering open communication about safety issues.
- Supervise and manage a team of safety professionals with optimal daily tasks to protect the safety of our employees and assets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma required.
- Bachelor’s in Operations, Logistics, Business Management, or related field strongly preferred.
- 5-10 years’ experience in manufacturing, logistics, or food industry managing 100 non-exempt level employees.
- Ability to work outdoors and varying temperatures and environments.
- Must have a valid active Drivers License.
- Ability to pass all required airport security clearance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong leadership experience with experience in start-up or turnaround environments.
- Strong communication skills with ability to communicate with non-exempt to upper management levels.
- Strong understanding of logistics and fleet procedures.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and operational processes.
- Good knowledge of HACCP & food safety standards.
