JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Payroll/Accounting Associate - MN
Department: Finance
SUMMARY:
Responsible for processing payroll on a bi-weekly basis. In addition, processing invoices and issuing payments with corporate payment terms in a confidential and timely manner. Monitors the outflow of capital for the company. Duties include financial reporting and maintenance of accounts payable records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process, review multi-state bi-weekly payroll for 200 employees.
Maintain all payroll and benefits data (Invoices), ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
Administering Benefit related payroll transactions (401k, RRSP, and HSA Contributions).
Entering Journal Entries for payroll and expenses.
Provide Payroll Reports, Metrics and assigned management reports.
Workman’s Compensation Audit Requests.
Workman’s compensation premium payments.
Process ROE’s (Records of Employment) in Canada.
Recording and verifying Benefit Invoices (3 different vendors).
Process year-end Audits.
Process year-end US W-2’s/ Canadian T4’s.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Experience doing Canadian Payroll.
Experience with HRIS Systems, Dayforce experience is a plus.
Accounts Payable Processing.
Bank Reconciliations.
Daily Bank Transfers.
General Ledger Benefit, 401K, HSA entries.
Collections help when needed.
Monthly/Quarterly bank reporting.
Accrual management.
Fixed Asset Management.
Supporting HR and other teams as needed.
Self-starter.
Responsible for performing duties in a safe manner and promoting safety to others in accordance with Newterra’s safety policies and procedures. This includes reporting all safety concerns, near-misses, and incidents to their manager.
Adhere to the company processes as detailed in Newterra’s Business Management System (BMS) and bring forward ideas for continuous improvement.
Responsible for completing all assigned training applicable to your position in the applicable timeframe.
Complete all responsibilities while ensuring adherence to Newterra’s Delegation of Authority.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree or higher diploma.
Minimum 1-3 years of experience in accounting or finance.
Demonstrated knowledge of Accounts Payable.
Experience with Simply Accounting an asset.
Competent in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve a common goal.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to multitask and work in a challenging fast-paced environment.
Ability to maintain confidential and meticulous records.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Generally, works in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
