What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Scientist position at Nextiles, Inc.?
Data Scientist
Company Overview
Nextiles is a venture-backed materials science company focused on creating next-generation fabric-based technologies to better understand human movement. By merging flexible electronics with patented sewing technology, Nextiles delivers seamless and comfortable experiences to better quantify human performance.
Our core value proposition is the ability to produce biomechanical and biometric data from form-fitted and tailored products which leverage our expertise in materials science. Nextiles currently works with partners in elite sports, ranging from training facilities for athletes to professional leagues such as the NBA. Nextiles is backed by the National Science Foundation and the military. Nextiles is building a cohesive hardware / software ecosystem leveraging machine learning to transform Nextiles’ sensor data into actionable insights for clients’ use to better understand training and optimize athletic performance.
Job Description
As a Data Scientist, you will be required to understand fundamental mathematical, biomechanical, and signal processing disciplines. Examples include comprehensive knowledge on Newtonian mechanics, geometry, statistics, and data filtering techniques. These skills will be used to develop data extraction and analytical pipelines to parse Nextiles datasets that come from arm sleeve, knee, sock, vest, and force plate products. An expected goal from the Data Scientist is to present findings as reports, interactive visualizations, and metrics that can be delivered through API request.
The Data Scientist should also have extensive background in backend technologies and machine learning. Tasks will involve building APIs, optimizing data structures to deliver API requested data, managing and organizing customer datasets, as well as building servers and endpoints on AWS resources (EC2, Sagemaker, S3, Lambdas, etc.). Proficiency in these technologies will allow the Data Scientist to perform real-time and cloud-centric machine learning pipelines.
The job will emphasize experimentation, validation, and generation of insights and quantifiable metrics on movement and athletic performance. The Data Scientist will work closely with the CEO and Head of Software as well as the software team consisting of mobile and backend engineers. The Data Scientist will also be highly involved in business activities such as speaking with customers, clients, and delivering reports during meetings.
