Controller
Job Summary
A key member of a small management team reporting directly to the General Manager. Responsible for all aspects of the financial reporting and accounting operations of the Club, including the preparation of financial statements, records, forecasts and analyses; as well as being responsible for cash management, payroll, insurance, pension plans, and regulatory reporting.
Supervise the staffing, scheduling, training and professional development of department members. Liaison with the Board of Directors, as well as various committees, and outside vendors, including our bank and outside accounting firm.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Key member of a management responsible for the financial and operational efficiency of the Club directly reporting to the General Manager
- Responsible for all aspects of the financial reporting and accounting operations of the Club.
- Oversees the production of accurate and timely financial records and reports which comply with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Club’s accounting policies.
- Maintains and adheres to accounting policies, procedures and internal controls to minimize risk and enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
- Produces reports, proposals, budgets, forecasts and financial analysis with emphasis on cash flow, capital spend, inventory, labor and food and beverage pricing, insurance and other financial affairs of the Club
- Directs and may participate in / verify physical inventories for beverages, food, supplies, equipment, furnishings and other club assets.
· Responsible for all aspects of member billing and collection.
- Lead the Club’s interactions with the external auditors as well as attending monthly Board of Director as well as Finance Committee meetings.
- Must ensure all interactions with Member and / or the Public when representing the Club are done so in a professional and courteous manner.
- Oversees the department’s IT systems and software maintenance
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
· Compiles, approves and maintains credit applications for vendors.
· Negotiates and administers employee benefits, including health and life insurance, pension plans and workers’ compensation.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent management, supervisory and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of accounting software, Jonas preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required. Master’s degree with concentration in Accounting or Business Administration preferred.
- Minimum six years of related experience required. Public accounting and prior Controller experience preferred
- Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant preferred
Physical Demands and Work Environment
· Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, stand and lift up to 20 pounds.
· Moderate noise level in the work environment.
Compensation
· Full time Salary –
o $85,000 – 105,000 commensurate with experience.
