NIC Industries is seeking a driven and experienced synthetic or organometallic chemist who is up to the rigors of bringing new polymers off of the blackboard and into the reactor. We are looking for a chemist eager to create and use reactions which are sometimes not present in the literature.
In this role you will:
- Design and synthesize new organometallic intermediates for polymer production in a safe and efficient manner.
- Execute scale-up of target compounds for plant scale production of new polymers, analyzing reaction kinetics, catalyst loading, and solvent selection.
- Successfully utilize design of experiment to identify and optimize cure kinetics of new polymers.
- Document experiments thoroughly in detail in a digital laboratory notebook.
- Continuously expand their skills through literature review, direct experimentation, and mechanistic investigations.
- Prepare presentations for company updates or meetings.
- Collaborate with peers and business development to produce resins and coatings for specific customers.
- Work with resin synthesis personnel to ensure timely delivery of manufactured chemical products.
Characteristics of a successful candidate
- Experience with bench scale synthetic technique, especially of organometallic intermediates. Experience in synthetic scale up is preferred.
- Independent worker with a passion for the field.
- The right candidate should be very ambitions in the chemical field.
- Knowledge of safe laboratory practices and hazardous waste disposal.
- Demonstrated ability to produce target compounds in an effective and safe manner.
- Experience collecting and interpreting analytical results (HPLC, GC, etc).
- Experience and understanding of Design of Experiment (DOE) methods.
Required skills and education
- Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry, with a minimum five years of industrial experience as a synthetic chemist. Experience preferred over advanced degrees.
- Proven use of modern synthetic technique to obtain and purify target compounds.
