Position Summary:
The CMM Programmer is responsible for interpreting drawings, creating CMM programs and operating the CMM as well as training QA technicians and production operators to run production in process inspections on the CMM. Responsible to guide technical evaluation, analysis, and related data acquisition processes to ensure plant quality objectives are achieved.
Essential Functions:
- Interpret drawings and create CMM programs for production parts, tooling and gaging
- Optimize programs to minimize run-time
- Provide CMM reports that are easily understandable and linked to product drawing bubbles if applicable
- Maintain records of CMM measurements
- Properly react to out-of-control or out-of-specification measurements
- Assist process engineering with troubleshooting and problem resolution
- Collaborate with others to determine product disposition based on CMM results
- Adhere to safety and cleanliness standards for self, work area, and equipment
- Provide training to Quality Technicians and Operations Team on CMM operation
- Assist process engineers with data collection on process development projects
- Assesses quality performance (or cost-of-quality) using statistical and analytical methods.
- Prepares reports by collecting, interpreting, analyzing and summarizing data and making recommendations
- Perform all other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Minimum 3 years of CMM programming experience
- Zeiss Calypso experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Detail oriented and able to work independently
- Strong math skills, understanding of statistics (SPC); ability to read blueprints and process sheets
- Verbal and written communication skills; understanding of relevant terminology
- Ability to use standard business applications software and/or specialized data analysis tools. Intermediate to advance Microsoft Office skills required. Knowledge of Minitab desired.
Job related demands (i.e. physical, travel):
- Occasional travel for meetings or training (1-2 times per year)
- Prioritization of multiple projects to meet operational goals
- Maintenance of professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional associations
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 35 lbs without assistance and occasionally up to 50 lbs following company safe lifting protocol
- Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
- Ability to work in an environment with powdered metal, dust, noise, oils and chemicals
