Job Summary
Manage the estimation, design, scheduling, planning, contractor facilitation, and project management of program level SMS requirements for contractors supporting extraordinary gas and electric facilities and high-profile projects requiring specialized project management. Manages NiSource SMS Contractor projects establishing, implementing, governing, and improving, all applicable requirements, ensuring safe, reliable service to customers in an efficient, economical manner. Collaborate and strategize with peers within NiSource companies and in industry to ensure SMS risk driven project management.

● Effective team relationships throughout field and State staff functions
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
● Lead a geographically dispersed project teams.
● Manage NiSource capital construction requirements; improve and standardize capital SMS, risk, and quality processes.
● Implement best practices while driving functional consistency, process standardization, and operational excellence.
● Support a project management and planning culture.
● Promote the necessary environment for effective internal customer satisfaction and collaboration.
● Partner with Field Operations, Sales, and other Technical Operations functions to meet strategic goals
and objectives.
● Assure activities and processes are implemented to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of service orders.
● Effective use technology, tools, and planning techniques to improve process results.
● Foster and promote valued relationships with government entities, industry associates, company
affiliates, and contractors.
● Ensure the occupational and personal development of project team members direct reports.
● Promote and assure safe working environment and public safety.
● Execute construction services strategies.
● Implement and manage pipeline construction contracts.
● Ensure timely and accurate invoice payments to contractor.
● Monitor appropriate contractor qualifications and certifications and ensure proper documentation.
● Assist in establishing and monitoring contractor performance metrics.
● Collaborate with peers to ensure operating standards and construction practices comply with policies and procedures.
● Design and manage strategic construction objectives.
● Manage implementation/tracking of major construction project risks to include material acquisition, material design, project design, and construction management, including permits such as construction, environmental, etc.
● Manage resources, establish performance expectations, and leverages resources across LDC's to
maximize efficiencies and costs.
● Interact with other business units, including Sales, Economic Development, Finance, M&R design,
Engineering, Survey & Land, SCADA, and M&R mechanics.
● Lead assigned SMS risk program’s collection of projects ensuring implementation and continuous improvement for all contractor requirements
● Design, manage, and apply strategic risk methodologies, applying appropriate risk actions and responses
Required Qualifications for Position
● High school diploma
● Minimum of five (5) years' utility experience
● Demonstrated strong knowledge of project management with experience leading projects
● Demonstrated skill in utilizing cost/benefit analysis with quantitative and/or qualitative data to recommend
best option/choice/alternative
● Demonstrated knowledge and experience with process improvement methodologies, e.g., TQM,
Continuous Improvement, etc.
● Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various individuals and functions across the organization
● Minimum of five (5) years' experience working with contractors
● Demonstrated strong negotiating and influencing skills
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
● Bachelor’s degree
● PMI PMP, PMI RMP, Lean Six Sigma
● Quality and or risk assessment and analysis
This position can be located anywhere within the NiSource service territory
