Job Summary
The intended primary role of the Field Planner is to work closely with Field and Integration Center Leadership to ensure site readiness, safety, and customer awareness, and to provide crews with an effective and efficient job site to perform work.
Supports the activities associated with natural gas system O&M and capital projects. Coordinate with New Business team/customers, contractors, communications, vendors, construction services leadership, welders, engineering, field operations and Integration Center to ensure customer focused, safe and cost-effective operations.
Activities typically include reporting to field work zones; responding to customer complaints, coordinating meter move outs, posting customer notices, coordinating material and monitoring usage, supporting job order creation and execution as needed, preparing project tracking documents, documenting field meetings, overseeing records, maintaining quality control reports and safety inspection records, identifying trends and challenges to efficient field work, and working with Field and Integration Center Leadership on recommended changes to improve field efficiency.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate across business unit boundaries (e.g., Field Operations, Integration Center, Schedulers, Work Coordinators).
- Visit the work site prior to the dispatch of crews and before the start of work to review the completeness of pre-job 10preparations; this will likely include evaluating the readiness of the job site, company maps and records, consulting with engineering, the Integration Schedule, Work Coordinators, etc.
- On-site evaluation of jobs to determine resource requirements including: Crew size, traffic control, and material requirements.
- On-site evaluation of jobs potential safety hazards, including identification of safe parking options.
- Coordinate with the Integration Center and other departments regarding scheduling of necessary permitting, tools, materials, personnel, etc.
- Verify that One Call was performed, and if not, request the resources to complete One Call marks,

- Assure compliance with state Dig Safe Pre-Marking Laws before truck roll.
- Direct contact with customers/homeowners related to pre-job assessment for all customer-impacting jobs, including meter and/or service relocation.
- Assure proper notification of applicable governmental agencies, other utilities, and customers of construction schedule.
- Assure compliance with company and local municipal standards of care in relation to permitting and completion.
- Creates and maintains valued relationships with government entities, industry associates, company affiliates, and contractors.
- Collect and deliver permits to local municipalities and boroughs.
- Customer contact follow up for restoration or other related questions.
- Participate and engage in daily huddles, weekly scheduling calls, etc.
- Work in conjunction with Field Leaders, Planners and Schedules to build out an extended schedule of work based on field readiness.
- Create and communicate daily reports to Field Leaders on operational challenges related to any of that day’s work.
- Track and trend information over time on jobs, identify items that prevent jobs from moving forward efficiently and recommend improvements to the process.
- Provide feedback and advice on daily, weekly, and long-term optimization of work to Field Leaders and the Integration Center Leadership, including recommendations regarding tools and processes to improve the readiness of field work.
- Serve as a field leader when a Field Leader is not available, including but not limited to activities such as serving as an incident commander or other ICS leadership position for field emergencies.
- Collaborate with Field Leaders and Manager of Operations Programs as necessary by approving invoices, assisting in hiring of field employees, recommending recognition or corrective action of employees, serving as project manager on special projects, etc.
- All other duties as required by business needs.
- Required Qualifications For Position
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1-3 years Minimum of twelve (12) months experience in underground gas operations or equivalent work experience.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with little direct supervision.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and organize, including attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret construction and engineering drawings.
- Must have a mechanical aptitude and working knowledge/experience in the use of hand tools.
- Must be able to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret company inventory maps.
- Ability to document records, understand oral and written communications and prepare legible orders.
- Strong oral and interpersonal skills, as demonstrated by successful interactions with others where tact and diplomacy are needed.
- Interpersonal skills must include ability to deal with challenging customers.
- Ability to work safely and demonstrated ability to safely operate company vehicles.
- Working knowledge of gas standards.
- Familiarity with local roads and municipal boundaries.
- Understanding of company policies, procedures, and contracts.
- Awareness of flagging requirements, rules, and regulations.
- Requires working knowledge using a computer, including applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and ability to learn computer applications such as Cognos, Tableau, Microsoft Power BI in a timely manner.
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Upon Hire
- Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in natural gas distribution field operations or equivalent experience as a plumber.

Salary Range:
