Responsibilities
Staff Counsel for CURE Auto Insurance has openings resulting from our launch and expansion into the Michigan market. We have a unique opportunity for an experienced defense attorney with 5 years of civil litigation experience in handling these types of claims to serve as the inaugural leader of our staff counsel operation. The ideal candidate’s experience should include taking and defending depositions, negotiation proficiency, and experience successfully trying cases. PIP insurance defense background is mandatory and experience in the handling of BI, UM and auto physical damage coverage matters is preferred. The leadership scope of this role will expand as the operation develops. Staff Counsel will be responsible for handling files from inception through trial and appeal, if necessary. All candidates must possess excellent academic credentials, outstanding written and oral advocacy skills and strong software/technological skills including competency in Word, Outlook and Westlaw. Competitive candidates will be well-organized, detail-oriented, and be able to independently manage a caseload as well as management oversight responsibilities that can be time sensitive in nature.

Qualifications
We are looking for a Managing Defense Attorney who has the following experience:
5 years of experience handling first and/or third party personal auto insurance cases and coverage matters from inception to conclusion with an emphasis on PIP
Ability to manage a full pending of case assignments
Must be able to handle an inventory of 25 files in addition to supervisory responsibilities
Extensive knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law
Experience presenting and cross-examining lay and expert witnesses
Experience directing support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to lawsuit handling
Experience working in a paperless electronic environment
Strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom presentation
Additional Information:
Must have a law degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and excellent academic credentials
Must have an active law license to practice in Michigan and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
Office Location: Metro Detroit but we cover jurisdictions throughout the State of Michigan
Compensation: Commensurate with experience with annual merit review increases and bonus incentives possible. Please provide salary requirements with your application.
