What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Harstad Director position at NLYMCA?

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, Youth Program Coordinator, and in the accordance with the association and policies of the Northern Lights YMCA, the Camp Director will be responsible for the health, welfare and happiness of campers in his/her care. In addition, will be the administrator for licensing requirements for compliancy for the state of Michigan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Preside over all CAMP FUNCTIONS.

2. Create a positive environment conducive to child & staff development.

3. Interact with children, act as a role model.

4. Maintain all YMCA standards and rules.

5. Be aware of all safety hazards. Implement first aid, CPR or AED training if necessary. Be sure to record all injuries.

6. Ensure no distraction or interference with the delivery of camp activities (no reading, texting, talking on cell phone, or wearing headphones while on duty).

7. Be aware of the location of campers and staff at all times.

8. Create appropriate lesson plans (encourage positive learning) and enthusiastically facilitate activities. Incorporate YMCA core values in all lessons plans.

9. Coordinate, assign leadership & supervise lesson plans / activities.

10. Ensure safety and cleanliness of program area and equipment.

11. Inform proper staff of equipment needs including first aid.

12. Maintain required current certifications.

13. Assist with PRE/POST camp and water safety duties.

14. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.

15. Provide excellent service to members, participants and parents.

16. Evaluate progress of program and staff.

17. Prepare weekly schedule for staff and campers. (STAFF: Pick Up, Waterfront, Clean UP, etc)

18. Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Camp Director must be at least 21 years old.

2. At least three years camp experience, some preferably in administration.

3. At least two years college experience.

4. Camp Directors must have current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED.

5. Must be a mature individual with the ability to operate independently.

6. Must have excellent human relation skills and ability to maintain positive communication with program participants, volunteers and staff.

7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

2. Must have ability to perceive audio & visual alerts for emergency purposes.

3. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

4. Be able to participate in physical activity for various amounts of time. (Swimming, hikes, demonstrating game skills, etc.)

5. Must be able to access all areas of building or off-site locations including pool areas, closets, stairwells, locker rooms, wellness center, etc

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
