About Network Infrastructure
The mission of the Network Infrastructure (NI) Business Group is to be the most trusted partner for the world's most critical network infrastructure. NI will respond to the ever-increasing demand for networks with higher capacity, greater reliability, faster speeds, and lower costs.
Job Position Description:
This position is part of the Optics Division - GOTEC (Global Operations Technical Engineering Center). The primary objective of TEC is to provide 24x7x365 technical support for DWDM products including 1830 DWDM Product family. The job's responsibilities require 24 hour support response on a rotational basis. The job assignment focuses primarily on advanced remote technical support and some combination of NPI and Pre-sales assistance support.
Job Responsibilities & Competencies
• Work with a team of engineers to support the identification, characterization and verification of design defects or deficiencies in deployed products.
• Be able to diagnose and characterize product problems symptoms prior to escalation to R&D by replicating product defects using lab equipment.
• Direct interface to R&D to create, monitor and report on MRs, ECOs and FRB Administration via JIRA
• Write and review generic test plans for customer lab evaluations, major initial network deployments and field trials.
• Develop, verify and document upgrade procedures in customer's networks.
• Review and provide technical feedback on customer documentation.
• Contribute to technical input for knowledge sharing: IDEAL, ON's, Alerts, etc.
• Assist with Type Approval Testing for new pre-DR4 products.
• Lead initiatives to Train RBC, TAC and members of NPI on new products/features.
• Maintain lab equipment for customer demos and investigation/replications of product defects.
• Lead technical discussions with customers and R&D on product defects.
• The candidate will be expected to become a subject matter leader in two or more optical WDM products: 1830 PSS-32/24X.
• Background knowledge legacy product DWDM and emerging 1830 PSS-32/24X products is required for this position.
• Domestic travel (<30%) is expected and may sometimes be on short notice. International travel (< 10%) is required to support customers abroad and for training purposes.
• This position requires someone willing and able to take responsibility to learn the products and associated technologies, via reading, formal training, on-the job experience, and working in the lab independently.
• The position requires excellent written communication skills, good oral communication skills and the ability to present a positive and confident attitude when working with customers.
Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge)
• Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering discipline or Computer Science is preferred and/or equivalent work experience.
• Experience working with NMS/NFMT products is highly preferred, but not mandatory if other networking experience exists.
