ABOUT THE POSITION
The Computer Science Department at Normandale Community College seeks a qualified faculty candidate to engage in teaching, service to the college, and professional development.
Normandale Community College is striving to achieve Equity 2025, closing all equity gaps for students of color by 2025. The individuals selected for this position will be expected to advance this goal through culturally responsive teaching, identifying barriers to success for students of color, and proposing effective solutions to eliminate those barriers. Individuals who do not have a background in culturally responsive teaching will be expected to complete the College's training.
The successful candidates will be expected to:
* Teaching a broad spectrum of computer science courses in programming languages (e.g. C, C , Python), Algorithms, Discrete Structures, and Linear Algebra
* Provide instruction to students in day, evening, and alternate schedule formats utilizing traditional and alternative delivery methods and virtual learning environments
* Providing quality instruction and services to students of diverse ages and backgrounds
* Evaluating and selecting textbooks and other instructional materials for assigned courses
* Preparing course syllabi based on the approved course content
* Guiding and facilitating classroom and online learning, and directing and assisting students in laboratory investigations
* Establishing, posting, and maintaining office hours
* Assessing student learning outcomes
* Developing and improving instructional methods, materials, and resources
Service to the College will include:
* Participating in the development and improvement of curricula and courses
* Participating in faculty and department meetings and College-wide committees
* Participating in other College related programs and activities
Professional development will include:
* Maintaining ongoing professional development activities in computer science and pedagogy
* Participating in on-campus faculty development discussions and opportunities
* Completing teaching and learning requirements as part of the faculty credentialing process
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
* Master's degree with a major in computer science, OR
* Master's degree in any discipline/field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in computer science
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in Data Science
* Experience in AI
* Experience in Cybersecurity
* Experience with online teaching and/or learning
