Position Scope
Assure that all mining equipment works efficiently and is following NACG safety standards.
Responsibilities
Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards
Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens)
Understand and implement LOTO procedures relating to equipment in a safe manner
Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions
Read, understand and apply plans, specifications and Service Manuals for equipment Visualize two dimensional drawings into three dimensions
Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered regarding construction equipment. Take corrective action as needed and specifications
Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans, specifications and company policy, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed
Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
Observe functioning of operating equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, repair or replacement
Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds or more
Move in, around and under confined and cluttered places, and uneven Full range of motion and flexibility
Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions
Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolding
Use appropriate hand and power tools to perform maintenance on equipment
Assure that equipment leaving the job is job-ready for the next assignment; document equipment conditions prior to releasing to production
Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards
Be motivated and work productively with minimal supervision
Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervisor
Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing essential job functions
Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job
Qualifications
High school degree or G.E.D with Vocational training
3-4 years’ experience
A working knowledge of construction equipment maintenance including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, emissions, diesel, gasoline and record keeping systems
Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills, as requested by project supervision
Ability to work in conditions common to a construction site including but not limited to rain, sleet, snow, dust, mud, heat, sun, cold and noise
Ability to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays
Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift
Climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms overhead and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Applicants for this job will be required to pass an established weld test
Must possess a strong mechanical working knowledge to accomplish required work on dragline heavy gear box repairs and overhauls, including knowledge of general maintenance practices encountered on draglines, as well as heavy-duty, coal mining equipment
Working knowledge of Preventative Maintenance (PM’s) and proper tooling used in maintenance of this equipment
Working knowledge of rigging/lifting techniques
Applicant must have a strong working knowledge of welding, cutting, fabricating and specialized weld repairs
Applicant must demonstrate a strong awareness and understanding of work-related safety practices
Must be physically capable to work at heights above 50 feet, to perform heavy lifting of 50 lbs. or more, to work in confined areas and to work in awkward positions requiring prolonged bending or kneeling
Must be able to work rotating shifts and weekends
