What are the responsibilities and job description for the Correctional Sergeant III position at North Carolina Adult Correction?
This position was located within the Department of Public Safety but transferred to the Department of Adult Correction on January 1, 2023.
The standardized annual salary for this position is $50,957 dependent upon fund availability and OSHR approval.
Reporting to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager III, this position provides supervision for subordinate officers regarding their assigned tasks with male offenders in a Minimum, Medium, and Close custody state correctional facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
- Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
- Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The selected candidate may be scheduled to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staffing coverage.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

Scotland Correctional Institution is located in Laurinburg, North Carolina and houses up to 1,756 male offenders in a close, medium, and minimum custody facility.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer or two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III

An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: MUST be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
