***Per G.S. 126-5(c1) (37), this position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7. ***

We are currently recruiting for a Nurse Consultant II for the Nursing Performance Unit (NPU) at Central Regional Hospital. The primary purpose of this position is to improve and enhance the quality of patient care through consultation, teaching/instructing, role modeling and assisting in researching the standards, policies, procedures, and initiatives of the Nursing Department hospital wide. This position possesses technical expertise in psychiatric/mental health nursing with the ability to advise and provide consultation within specialized nursing services (and nursing education). The Nurse Consultant II works directly under the Nurse Director of the Nurse Performance Unit (NPU) to help plan and implement hospital wide training initiatives. The Nurse Consultant II is the catalyst for system changes and suggesting practical solutions to clinical problems.

This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package. The normal working hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm; however, flexibility is required to meet hospital needs. This position is considered Mandatory under adverse weather events which will be discussed in detail during the interview process.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess education/experience that clearly demonstrates the following:


A. Quality Improvement/Performance Improvement (QI/PI) 40%
1.Collaborates/Consults with the NPU Nurse Director and others to develop and implement nursing standards (interpreting standards to unit nursing staff and assuring that standards are maintained).
2.Provides leadership to unit-level QI/PI.
3.Submit Quarterly Reports (including analysis/interpretation of data).
4.Participates/attends Nursing QI/PI and Nursing Standards committees.
5.Serves on task groups, work group, and projects as assigned as they related to quality and performance improvement.
6.Provide clinical consultation to staff in nursing management and on all clinical care unit (including
patients admitted to the medical care unit.
7.Routinely carries out functions within the Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES) which may include, but is not limited to, review and analysis of events, maintaining Patient Safety Work Product (PSWP) within a secure environment, and entering patient safety event information into the designated Patient Safety Event and Patient Safety Organization (PSO) databases.

B. Education and Clinical 40%
1.Collaborates with all Nurse Consultants in the orientation of new nursing staff and continuing education of existing staff.
2.Collaborates with others in educator group to plan, implement, and evaluate Nursing Process course on a quarterly basis.
3.Collaborates with Nursing Educational Programs external to CRH, acting as a Clinical liaison and point person for setting up and assisting onsite clinicals as CRH.
4.Participates in nursing research projects or information gathering as assigned.
5.Provide direct patient care and functions as a Professional Nurse when assigned to meet the needs of the unit (includes but not limited to medication administration, participation in treatment team meeting, leading nursing groups and admitting/discharging patients).
6.Serves as nursing clinical expert/consultant to the multidisciplinary treatment teams for the complex and special needs cases.

C. Customer Service 20%
1.Demonstrates respect for all stakeholders internal and external to the organization.
2.Presenting professional and courtesy manner to new employees.
3.Providing continuing education of high-quality customer services is practiced in assigned areas.
4.Demonstrate respect for individual and cultural differences.

ADA physical requirements will be discussed during the interview including but not limited to: lifting, kneeling, walking up and down stairs, and ability to lift 50 pounds.

Ability to maintain a current certifications in CPI, CPR, and ACLS.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of clinical experience in the area of specialization.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus:
Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
